Really? That suprises me to be honest mate. Unless your talking about older 600's maybe?
I can 100% gurantee that the 600 was either ridden by a poof or he was not trying.

Just to put it in perspective, my K5 GSXR600 will do 11.2 quarters. The thou's will do it in about 10.5 seconds.

So what power cossie would you need to get quarters like that then?

That just shows how fast the R1 is. The cossie gets a MUCH better start and the R1 just reels it in with no problems at all. And that was a 600bhp cossie? Or did i hear it wrong?
i didnt say the R1 wasnt fast as for reeling me in....LOL the camera angle following both up the strip is playing tricks with your eyes

the bloke on the tannoy said 600 bhp..i recon he was exaggerating..maybe be 400bhp

that was a fun day with the bikes....first victim of the day was someone on some 600 thing .. i thought his chain had snapped

Definalty mate. In fact even the older 600's would have sorted it out pretty easily with 370hp.

Thats good going then mate with 400bhp. What were the times out of interest? And thats some good traction you got there. Rolling starts would have been a bit more interesting i reckon.

S1, knowing Kev its alot more than 400 bhp.

I ride an old 99 cbr 6 to get to work on and the cossie will just eat it.
Have raced quite a few other bikes and tbh 600's not really bothered by..

1k's on the other hand

And going back to the GSXR 1K my mate had 06 plate OMFG With out a doubt the quickest thing i have or ever will go on in my entire life i recon.

Just wants to wheelie in any gear

miller3, im pretty sure that the 99 cbr6's do around 11 second quarters at around 130mph. Surely your cossie cant do anywhere near that mate.

the truth is i dont know...it was a fully trimmed lux pack with only the carpets and rear seats removed..stil had the leccy sunroof /windows etc

estimates were from 600 to 675bhp calculated from the weight of the lardy fecker and the times/terminals it was doing

0-60 was 2.94 sec with a 500 touring car spec motor with little nos jets which were supposed to give 25bhp so prob around 550bhp it did 10.8@136mph at brunters with that setup

Mr Brannen

which R1 you looking for?

i rode my friends 99 R1 which i think is the best looking bike, and have to admit i was scared a little coz i felt the back was a bit scittish was very scared as i only ridden 600's prior to that.

The early ones do seem to be well known to be a bit twitchy. Ive heard this quite a few times.

Id go for a 600 first. get used to that, then have a go on a few thou's or maybe a gixer 750 and see what you think.

Can a Cossie outrun an R1- not unless you have massive bhp

Lots of talk on this Topic so now lets quote a few facts.

Got the R1 times from the web.

R1 ---------------------------------800bhp Cosworth
0-60 3.0 ------------------------------------ 0-60 4.1
0-100 6.0 ---------------------------------- 0-100 6.9
0-150 11.6 ---------------------------------- 0-150 12.7
60-100 3.0 ---------------------------------- 60-100 2.8
100-150 5.6 --------------------------------- 100-150 5.8
60-150 8.6 ----------------------------------- 60-150 8.6
Must have a go in a Stage 3 Cossie that can out acclerate that, mine does well evens from 60-150. So you will need 800bhp in a rwd Cossie to run with the R1 , mind you my 0-180 is many seconds quicker than the R1 & I cant find its 0-200 anywhere .

ps. Modify the R1 & it will piss over mine as well, they are fast lads.

I once saw a short and skinny chap jump on an r6 (100bhp) and run a 9.9 second quarter.

Thats only on a six. Not that many cossies that can do that time.... even with a midget driving!

accelerations is unreal, withing seconds we were at 150mph on the r1. i was on the back of the bike and even 2up the bikes front wheel was lifting in 2nd gear!

i definently would suggest not going for an r1 as a first bike.

look at something like an r6 or a ninja!

it's more likely to lift the front wheel 2 up, not less

Go for a one year old R6 first (Gone through it's worst depreciation) and get used to it......sell it after a year without loosing too much dosh, then check out the 1000's.

I hate these threads when there is a "fast" car owner deciding he fancies a stab at riding a bike and will only settle for the best/fastest

There's a reason why you dont give a 17yr old who has just passed their driving test a rwd 500bhp cossie

I think that most people who dont ride also dont have a CLUE how fast bikes really are and the rush from riding them! At times cracking the throttle can feel well scary and make the adrenaline flow

I've ridden for 4 years and have a gixxer 750 and all i know is that i dont think i could handle an R1 properly to use to itf full potential. Now no offence but if i cant do it then a new rider certainly cant

Call me if you like but these are facts from someone who has both car and bike

I think too many people under estimate how fast an R1 or any sports litre bike really is. My first bike was an R1 and believe me it is fcuking FAST. The sensation you get over 9000rpm with the wheel up off the ground with your helmet pinning against your nose is UNREAL!

Currently talking to someone regarding turbo-charging it now, should be lots of fun!

Sunny.

I think any thou would be pretty much un-rideable on the road personally mate. Turbo bikes are better off staying on the strip and done properly with the extended swinging arms/frame etc in my opinion.
