i had a gsxr 600 a few years ago and loved it, on the move... very similar performance to my current Evo, but in a different league for entertainment/grin factor, adrenalin rush after rush after rush... Alston-Hartside... Melmerby-Hartside
and for the record from a 50-150mph roll on theres nothing in it between a 387bhp Pulsar GTiR (forged engine, GT30) and an 2004 Kawasaki ZX636 (one of the quicker 600 bikes), proven numerous times as my friends own both

That wouldgive you a mental spec on a car!
8-9K already gone on buying the bike , I could easily spend 10K on Suspension , a further 5K on brakes etc

My rear brake for my Blade cost over Ł1K
Why would you not want the best handling and braking bike you can afford ?

The car is already better than most people need
And may i suggest trying a bike fitted with PROPER brakes not your OEM stuff

I can understand why people would want to spend that kind of money on track bikes where you can get the full benefit out of the upgraded parts, but i cant see any REAL benefit for a road bike, well for me personally anyway.
Im sure theres people that can ride a standard bike to its limits on track so need to upgrade to ride beyond that. But can anyone REALLY ride a 750 or a thou to its limits on the road?
Having said that, some people spend money on making their cars handle, brake and perform better but they dont necessarily drive them any harder.

And how is it acceptable to modify a car which for a lot of people , never sees a track , yet for a bike its incomprehensible

^wow, seen your figures before Rod but now comparing that it really puts it into context.
Id imagine the bike would have pulled a reasonable lead upto 150, so im guessing, you wouldnt pass until nearer 180mph?

Forget an old R1, they are quick but the newer 1k's are noticeably quicker.
Get yourself an 04 zx10r, nice learner bike!
Seriously though if you love the early R1, get one.. it's your choice. I love the early R1's myself and have had a few over the years. They aren't the greatest handling bikes though, seem a bit lardy compared to the newer stuff.
If you join the American R1 forum you'll see there's loads of people there that have R1's as their first bikes.. most of them are kids too!
In all seriousness though a newer 1k is easier to ride IMO. Take the zx10r for example, it pootles around sooo much easier than an early R1, slipper clutch works nice too. By easier to ride, I mean normal slow riding BTW. Also a new thousand will show you properly quick, the old R1 gets a bit slow over 140mph IMO..
My old zx10r (off the rev limiter, not just shift light)..
108mph in 1st
130 mph in 2nd
150mph in 3rd
etc
It would hit it's 180mph speed limiter in 5th gear before the physical rev limit. Granted that's indicated speed but it would tear an early R1 a new arsehole over 130mph.
Get a power commander and akra on there and cream ya fookin pants.
Only gsxr 1k I've had was a 2002 model, I've never liked gsxr's, they look fat and ropey too. The 2005 model is a different story and I'm currently looking for one..
I've got a 2005 zx6r at the moment, nice little bike. Plenty fast enough for the roads but you always want more don't you?

As I stated my zx10r would do over 100 in 1st (indicated on clock, off the limiter) The journo's at the time confirmed this.
It's pretty widely known that the 10's would do over a ton in 1st on the clocks.
Mine would stack on roughly 20mph (indicated) every gear there after, hitiing it's 180mph speed limiter in 5th gear.

Just been on my mates K5 GSXR 600, and I must say its put me off the whole 1000cc thing, even with me on the back it pulled well, to tell u the truth mind if thats how fast they were with one person on then I would be bored very quickly , but with twice the weight I can imagine the 600 being more than enough for me
