Realy, what do you think about millers comment above, is the gixxer 1000 better, IMO the Suzuki looks better but I just fancy the R1

It's very hard to describe the first time you crack the throttle open on a litre bike but I will try.
It's like no acceleration you would have experienced in a car, you have to hold on, so being in the right position is vital and also watch out for the clocks smacking you in the face as the front wheel comes off the ground. Then there is the noise, the wind rush, the scenery going blurred in your periferal vision and of course the horizon hurtling towards you much quicker than you believed possible.
Coming from a 600 it's brutal but coming from a car, even a fast one, it will be almost unbelievable.....
but very addictive

Hi.i am a bike nut ... had a 2000 R1 and its too fast IMHO..people who say othewise aint ridden one or are Valentino Rossi
Seriously i went from a 916bp Duke to one and i rode it and thought its only 916 power then i hit the powerband and nearly flipped it
Back to a 916sp now and LOVE it,fast but not mental.

both awsome machines never rode a gsxr but believe there animals dont think it would eat r1 alive imo both are frightningly fast , most riders will run out of talent before speed including me ,scared me shitless i have had blades , zx9r , old gsxr street fighter 1100 awsome and few others

Great explanation , thanks bud. Only thing is I want one NOW, I dont do loans or credit cards, which brings me on to my next question, ......
would I regret selling my Cossie and maybe downgrading to a Vectra GSI or summit and buy an R1 with the rest of the sale money
#11
Depends what year your talking about. I think the new gixer thou's are supposed to be the quickest with 185bhp. Still its all very minimal when your comparing the gsxr, r1's, zx10's and blades. very few people will be able to tell the difference and theres no definate winner really as where one loses out, it'll gain in another area.
My gixer 600's quick and its 120bhp. My mates 1000 is 170bhp+ and thats ridiculously quick and pulls your arms off. I can only imagine how much quicker the new ones are with 15bhp extra.

R1 is definately too much of a bike as a first bike mate and is only asking for trouble IMO !!
Better off starting with a 600 as they are still scary fast and can get you into a lot of trouble very easily if you dont know what you are doing on a bike.
The rush of speed on any of the 1000cc bikes is awesome to say the least !! You cant compare it to being in a fast car as its a totally different sensation of speed, when you crack the throttle open in 1st gear you will be flat on your arse with the bike sat ontop of you!! Crack it open in 2nd and the front wheel will be pointing skywards before you know it, 3rd gear and you will be doing 130 or so in seconds, continue through the gears and 180 will be seen on the speedo in what seems like a heartbeat, they really are that fast
I aint come across any rider that has got the max out their 1000cc bike so would say to start off on a 600 and build from there, i went through 5 600's and 3 years of riding before progressing up to my first Fireblade and the difference between it and the 600 was unreal !!!!!

TBH deep down I know I would regret selling the car, which makes it all the more harder, its doing my head in I want one now [/quote]
I regreted selling my cossie but everyone is different, depends if you want the bike as a toy or an everyday thing though. Mine were purchased purely as a toy so they didnt get used that often due to work commitments. IMHO you woul be better to start off with a 600 or a 750 though

Aaah mate stop putting pics like that up, whats those colours about?as for the money thing ya mentioned, its just had a rebuild and I paid the best part of 5k for it in March, I love it but its having a few teething problems, it realy needs to go to Blackpool for the day and let Stu weave his magic, also needs the bumper painted, its the Cossie paranoia setting in again, and yesterday I just had enough, and thought fuck it ive had enough, wheres the spending gonna end, then I thought " but what can I get to replace it" and then here we are

Sorry but im more into my bikes than cossies !!!!!
If someone could tell me how to convert a vid from my video camera i could post up a wee vid i took with the camera pointing at the speedo and this would give folks an idea as to how quick bikes really are !!!
It was taken on my old 94 Blade but still looks impressive, slow in comparison to the newer 1000's these days though, thats why i sold it and bought a new one !!!!

Would need a lot more than 330 bhp to be anywhere near a bike i reckon.
What kind of bhp would you need to get 0-60 in 3 seconds, 0-100 in about 6 seconds, and up to around 160 in 12 seconds ????

That just shows how fast the R1 is. The cossie gets a MUCH better start and the R1 just reels it in with no problems at all. And that was a 600bhp cossie? Or did i hear it wrong?

I have the Gixxer so i may be biased, but buy ANY of the mags at the minute and the Gixxer thou wins everything.
July's PB mag drags all the bikes up brunters side by side, the R1 is next closest but its like 100ft behind, then the 1098 duke etc miles back.
