Ie carbs before turbos, like on some old skool turbo conversions, renault 5 gordini turbos, etc etc etc.
Do they need a specially modified carb, or is that most the point of them, they dont?
They always seem to use SU's, dunno why, aside from they side draught, so face the right way.
A bit confused how the fuel gets to the engine when not on boost, surely the suck from the engine cant be that good, can it?

From what im gathering now, as I suspected, they dont need mods to run as suck thru, just the correct jetting as you expect.
Which is nice.
Where can you get the biggest SU's around from? Some big old motor im guessing...

Su's on a metro have different seals on them, I dont know the exact difference but they ARE different to the non turbo ones, but they are blow through anyway.
For suck through its not an issue really, but be careful with those setups as obviously it means fuel going through the turbo, and its VERY easy to get fuel dropout that causes lean running.
For bigger SU carbs, there are 2" ones out there on some of the bigger BL cars, but most of them used to use twin 1.5" or twin 1.75" instead.

Smitsturbo- They had strombergs, kinda like an SU copy, no idea how big or how useful they are tho.
Radders- No you plank, they EFI![Raz](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Everyone else- Basically through all my random shit collecting, I happen to have spare a bog stock 302 windsor, old but unmodified, and no use to me for parts for the "better" v8 im gonna use for something more interesting.
With a pair of cossie T3s (or similar) and flanges welded to the stock manifolds its easy to do a bodgy comedy turbo conversion on them. Commonly done and shockingly effective.
Trying to think of the way to fuel it for nothing, a suitable blow thru will cost me about 500notes at least, but using a normal 4barrel inlet with a hat welded to it, and then pipes direct to the comp outlets, i could run a suck thru setup for nothing really.
Not actually got a car to bolt it to, but im not arsed, jus wanna do it for fun if its not gonna cost me.

Don't do it......
Of course the engine has enough suck to cause a vacum in a carb. How do you think they do it normally? Think about it steve.
Compressor blades get shot blasted by fuel droplets because they spin so fast.
Need special turbo seals as the fuel breaks down the normal ones.
No intercooling and it will run like a sack of shite on anything other than flatt ooot due to fuel drop out.

not a project, just bolt a few bits of crap to some other bit of crap, if it costs money or takes time, i wont, but as long as nobody starts banging on about EFI and shit, it wont

i always thought they only do it as a cheap workaround cause there was no "pressure tight" carb around. i know webers in pressurized apps have to be sealed so the pressure doesnt go out the sides where the butterflies go through.
just my 5cents worth....
