Default Cossie rough running problem.....

Got my engine back in the cos, and running last night. yey!

BUT, it has a slight problem.

When idleing, its smooth and runs nicely, but when you apply any throttle, it coughs and spits around.

Now, if you hold it at a certain rev point, i.e, 3k, it will rev nicely, but when you go to put any more or less on again, it does the same thing.

And when you come completely off, it idles fine again.

The car has been sat in the garage since last september, so i was wondering if it could be dodgy fuel?

I have a set of NGK BCR8ES plugs from Halfords in it for now, as i just wanted to get it started up. Could it be those?

Ive got some 071c's and new fuel to try tonight, if these dont help, any ideas?

Crank sensor is gapped correctly also.

Thanks
Mike

Does your rev counter jump about when it happens?

Try having a look at the phase sensor inside the dizzy, I had a similar problem with my Cossie and it was the plug onto the phase sensor that had corroded

Could be fuel aswell - try draining the old stuff out and putting some fresh in, but with modern fuels being able to stand for a while it might not be that

HT lead interfering with the map sensor maybe, make sure it's well away from the bracket.

Saw this on an Escort Cossie a few weeks back.

Sounds like igntion related, but if you have not done so in the last 5 years or so change the CTS anyway, and set CO(when you can) to 2-2.5% CO

OK cheers peeps. Any suggestions would be cool. Gunna try them all tonight.

I think i will change the crank sensor anyway.

Thinking about it, i painted the bottom pulley when i rebuilt it, so maybe the teeth are covered in paint. Would that make a difference aswell?

Yeah They aren't hard as long as you have a deep socket and you move the pipe out of the way above it. I tried doing it with the pipe in place and cross threaded it because I couldn't see it I managed to get the plate off and re-tapped but it took 2 hours instead of 10 minutes

Scratch off any paint on the crank pulley lugs.

check phase sensor wiring for damage or corrosion, and check the gap is set to about 0.3mm.

Coolant sensor should defo have been done when the engine was out...never mind

good luck
