Default 4 or 6 pots??

looking at prices etc 4 pots are coming in at a reasinable price to compare with 6s,i know 6s will be better but how much????

obviously my car has the standard 4 pots on just now with standard size discs, but how much of an improvment would i see from aps,hi spec, godspeed etc if i went 325mm?

or should i aim for bigger discs,im running rs diamond cut 17s but these will have to go from the start as they wont clear the callipers, without big spacers and im not into that

so what yous all got and what bhp would give mean idea

I dont subscribe to the 6pots being better theory. At the end of the day, it just adds lots of unsprung weight.

I run a similar power to yourself (albeit slightly less). I use 4 pot calipers supplied by Tony (Nuts RS) which are basically the same as the 911 turbo setup (993).

Track tested - no fade, strong stoppers. I have been in 6-pot equipped cars, and remain unconvinced that any mid range cosworth (say up to 500bhp) would need.

AP imho are way to expensive - but their reputation cannot be denied. I for one do not regret for one minute my purchase.

they are my 6 pots, they seem to have more pad area than the 4 pots i had.

cannot really tell the difference tbh from the 4's to the 6's.

if your going on track dont skimp it cost in the long run
i got 6 on the front and 4 on the back cuz i wana stop when i have to running slicks soon makes the brakes work so ya carnt compare what its like on the road
imo a road car 330/28 mm 4 pots
this can be done as little as £500 if you get 2nd hand calipers

Someones out of date - thats one of the few calipers NOT made in house Brom.

Like it says it is made by a well respected leading brake caliper manufacturer

It is fitted as O/E on Porsche and Ferrari so is NOT a sales pitch

What wheels will you be using? I can do 362x32 discs c/w alloy bells with Brembo calipers at very reasonable prices

Noticed some of the 6 pots out in action today in the Ford Saloon Championship

Terry runs them on his ST under 16" rims

Not sure on the final positions, but I think he may have won class B section final, whilst Steve Scott romped away easily with another O/A win

I've got AP 330mm/4pots on mine and they've transformed the car, i cant see why you'd want more for road use.

6 ppots for track use maybe?

I have to say, Brom, I am rather surprised you jumped to that conclusion!

For one thing, I am not Steve, I am me, and I am not so stupid as to say something without first checking my facts

I have compared the caliper on a table directly with a Porsche OEM item. I can confirm unequivicably that they are identicle in every way. The pads I purchased from Porsche likewise fitted perfectly. So agreed by not just myself, but the Porsche Mech that was with me when we compared.

The calipers in question are effectively brembos.

As a matter of course, I would rather have rebadged brembos that Porsche have paid signficant sums to properly test for road cars, than some budget over priced APs

Good thread timing, i've just been thinking about a new brake set up myself, interested in whether the 4/6 pots any difference? would probably go the 330 4 pot route for price reasons, any ideas what sort of price am i looking at? also what make are recomended for callipers, discs and pads?

i'll see if i've still got the ebay link, they said they were from germanay and off of a touring car but they looked exactly the same
but if you are saying they've ome off a racer then they may be the same sort of set up for a few different motors
