if its detonating the engine set up (timing, temps etc) cant take the boost so doesn`t sound as if the turbo is giving up on ya.

So if the turbo was struggling at the top end it could easily do exactly what is described.
Also if its spinning its tits off it could be introducing a lot of heat that could lead to det as well.
Conversely it could be the head is too restrictive and causing the same effect.
It could also be that the exhaust side of the turbo is increasing pumping losses on the engine.
Basically, it could be lots of things with those symptoms, including the thing you say it cant be!

standard comp on the 1.6 cvh turbo is 8.2:1/8.3:1 i belive mine is around 7.8:1 to allow more boost bit more laggy but higher pressures cuz the cylinders dont get as hot.
i`ve known 18 psi on standard comp with water injection not 22 on 8.5 with just a twin pass cooler. thats crazy!
jamies done the bollocks their mate if he got that power with out detonating, and i bet is goes too.

there only one thing for you to do if you want 300 bhp out of it. sit down and have a chat with jamie and ask him exactly what you`ll need and how much its gonna cost.

the spec is good its just the turbo letting you down, check the cam not worn cvh37 is an excellent profile, but the blanks kent use are shite and i would not be Surprised to see the cam worn after only a few miles...
my cvh 37 was dead to the point the car was missing after 76 miles..
newman all the way
if the cam ok just you want 300+ bhp change the turbo and run loads of boost.. a tubular would help but not really needed.. for a sub 300bhp
