Default best cheap camcorder for my track days etc

any opinions on a good camcorder for track days and santa pod etc,

will be easiest with a HD memory i think as it makes it easier for me to put the files ontothe pc

dont want to spend a fortune but dont want shit quality either

what do you use?

i will also be using it at a later date as a storage device/hard drive for a bullet cam on the outside of the car so must have AV in etc

not sure i'd buy a hard drive one for car use.

i've just bought a jvc minidv tape one, for the same use

haven't got the exact model no, as i left it at work but it has 270 in the number!

has av in, was about 200squid

no vibration/g-force issues with a tape

i use a sony dv8mm .. its about 7 years old and gives really good digital video, i use pinnacle software to edit it although win xp does support it
stick a firewire cable in and off it goes takes a bit of time to download it as obviously it has to play it to download it, but can always do other stuff while it does it.
full digital video is too big to load straight up anyway even a few minutes will be monster sized pinnacle is very easy to use to edit it tho

depends if you want a new one or one off of the e-bay

even better one

I wouldn't use a HDD camcorder for track days, you will get lots of problems from vibrations and shaking etc. Get a MiniDV one, they are a doddle to transfer data to the PC with via firewire - Plug it in and the PC controls the camcorder, rewinds the tape and transfers it to the PC faster than normal watching speed, then you have an AVI file on your PC to play with

It is very easy and hastle free and the tapes are mega cheap. A HDD one isn't good if you go on holiday and the HDD is full after the first day - you can't just buy more tapes for it

I've got a mini-DV camcorder.

Does this mean I can run a bullet cam mounted on the screen or whaever to the AV in, and then just stuff the camera somewhere else?

What software do you use to upload and save as an AVI?

I had a flash new JVC HDD (Hard Drive) camera and it was bollocks for trackdays.
Within the first lap the vibration etc had corrupted the recording and I had to reformat. I tried rubber mounts and all the tricks in the book. HDD cameras don't like shock and vibration
I'd say you can't got wrong with a mini DV or DV camera mate.
Good old fashion tapes

As snow said, the Hard-Drive Camcorders are no good.

Well, I have 2gb of movie on my PC which Gary took while at Snetterton (using his JVC HD Camcorder, but with an SD Card in it), I think it was around an hour. That Oregon one has SD cards, so when one is full, just pop another in!!

640x480 isn't great, but since they mostly get resized for hosting on the 'net anyway, should be plenty good enough.

Yes! You just select AV-in in the menu if it doesn't switch to it automatically!

These are also quite good fellas.
I've used one of these on my Sapphire for trackdays, had it up to 155mph with no dramas at all.
