yeah the platter does have a large magnet on it .

the magnet is the underside of the platter ... and yes it can burn out the coils under the top cover of the turntable, or the pulse controlling chip so i have just been told

ermmmm have no idea mate to be honest.. find a technics dealer and take it in is the only advice i can give...

has he just done this,
or did he turn it on when platter was removed, a while ago. And now this has happend?? it could be the stop/start button.

doesn't look good mate. if you type in technics spares on ebay there is a few people/firms who repair them and servce them. cheaper than taking it to technics!
Or it might be better sticking it on ebay as faulty and just buying another. i fancied a 3rd deck so bought a Mint mk3 for £200

also type in technics spares........ there is a motor on, its only @ £10 no bids....its for a mk2 but is the same as mk5
