Default bike or car engined 7 style kit car??

just wondered what sort of 0-60 and 0-100 is to be expected from a fairly standard zetec lump in one of these,?

thought about a bike engined one too?

anyone have either on here?

Im about to start building an Onyx Mongoose (see sig) pick my chassis up tomorrow. Im fitting a yamaha XJR1300 engine mid-mounted to it.

For some great advice try the www.locostbuilders.co.uk site really great guys on there who are building 7 style cars. Theres a section for bike engine cars aswell.

I would of thought a semi tuned Zetec in a kit car would be in the 4's to 60mph.

Power to weight is insane, I would go for a Duratec if you can afford to tune.

That engine in the nova you have seen will hopefully end up in a kti car once he is bored with fwd, now that should be interesting

its running 215bhp now s not really standard any more.
but i'll ask him next time i talk to him what sort of times he is running

That xe should be about 230hp, more if u do some more headwork and change the ex manifold (which u would have to for a kitcar)

Not really too keen on the V8 ones, even a hot pinto in one would go really really well.

nice, is it still in a nova at the mo?

love the noise of a v8, but rover v8's about the same power as a zetec on carbs

pintos cheap too, definately tempted

dax's v8 aint amazing, their hybousa powered one is cool though.

my dads 215bhp one is fun as well.
need small feet to drive it though.

Yes but I'm kindly planning the engines future lol

I think the nova will be about for a while yet tbh, I can't wait to have a drive in it tbh as its what I always wanted mine to be but I just didn't want to shell out that sort of money on a nova.

The owner of the local car shop round here has a HT Racing 2.2 Pinto in his kit car round here and you can hear it coming from a mile off

I've got a Yb turbo in mine, as has CosRush. Cracking fun, probably not much quicker to 60 than a normal 2lt, but much quicker midrange I reckon.

I wouldn't bother fitting a rover v8 to one, although I know a chap with a 500bhp LS2 v8 in it.

if you want to see what they're like, why not pop along to one of the wesfield clubs monthly meets and blag a passenger ride. If your anywhere near harlow pop along to Dax and get gary to take you for a spin in the bike engine demonstrator (preferably duncans busa turbo). Don't forget your sunnies though, you'll need them.

My m8's built 2 bike engined MK Indys, first one powered by a ZX9 Ninja engine, then a R1 engine in the second

Had a run against a caterham with a 16v Vaux XE on carbs and my m8's ZX9 Indy was much faster on accelaration off roundabouts etc, pushed him down the road

Tuned car engine kit cars are alot faster than the bike engined ones top end though, bike engined ones max out at around 130mph screaming there nuts off

Bike engined ones are alot better if you want a toy though that accelerates like fook and has a 6 speed sequential clutch-less gearchange

cheers guys,

defo planning to get to have a look around the dax workshop and the mk's when i get home, dax have a v8 demonsrator too dont they?

think it's going to be a naughty pinto, or zetec etc rather than bike engined, may change my mind when i've been out in both though? love the noise of hot pintos on carbs

Where are the monthly westfield meets???

coskev, love that green mk, remember you putting pics up last time, whats the fabrication and general quality of the mk kits like?

Car engines are much easier to live with on a day to day basis too, means I use mine much more than I would if I had to listen to a bike engine screaming its tits off on the motorway.

Dax have a V8, 2lt 16v XE and a bike engine demonstrators. The cobra rep demo they've got is awesome too - 502ci v8 They're in endingbrough place not far from halfords / maccy D.

Good quality

Just you need to do abit of drilling etc yourself, not a problem though

Not like Westfields etc where you pay 'x' amount more for your chassis to come pre-drilled

To be fair not many people build kit-cars to travel down motorways really do they???????

You can't talk to each other above 60mph for a start

All these kit cars look like you would not fit in if you was over 5ft? Or are they bigger than they look?

You end up getting in the drivers way when he wants to change gear
