Default Anybody know about Wireless ADSL Routers???

My friend has a Laptop in his office at the other end of his house from the main phone line.

Can he use one of these Wireless ADSL routers to get ADSL to the laptop?

Is it a case of plugging the Router into where the main line comes in and the card into the Laptop and away you go???

Any advice greatfully received.

I use a netgear router, plugged into phone line. With a desktop connected by ethernet cable, (have space for 3 more cable connections /ps2/x box/etc) also can connect wireless to my laptop which has wireless PCMCIA card added. Very easy to setup and extremely handy. obviosly allows files etc to be shared between computers as well

I have no real understanding of this router stuff.

So just to clarify, if you have a Wireless Router with Built in Broadband modem, and a PC card for the laptop, you'd be able to use the laptop to connect to the internet with broadband from a different room from where the Router is???

The easiest way to do this, is 1) Buy a wireless router that is compatible with your modem and your pc. 2) Buy a wireless network card for you laptop / other pc 3) Configure it.

Some Broadband modems aren't compatitble with certain routers and vice versa, I would reccommend spending a lot of time researching this out before making a purchase. If you have a cable modem, then I would reccommend this http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=45023

Depending solely on your setup, this could be an alternative http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=59013

that is correct and also using this method you have a hardware fiewall running 24/7 and you don't have to have both computers on to share broadbamd connection although it is slightly more expensive. I use a netgear dg384 router and netgear wg511 54 MPS PCMCIA card. works 100% perfect

It may be worth testing the equipment at home too - make sure you have an option to return it at no cost.
Wireless works well as long as you have line of sight or cardboard walls, stick a couple of brick walls between the laptop and wireless router and you can say bye bye to any wireless signal.

Work pay for a ISDN line for me at home which gives three lines (voice/fax/data) of which any two can be used together, but it is only at 64k. It is handy though, because I have my home PC plugged into it too, and so keep my home line free.

However, the business line is going to broadband next month, and I don't know what gear I will be getting (not that I will get any say in it anyway)

Does anyone know:
Will it allow me to have laptop (work) and home desktop plugged in together?
Any conflicts about doing this?
Do work need to know what I'm doing? I really need to not tell them (they are paranoid about system security)
