Default ADSL Router and P2P Programs.........

How come now that I have gone over to an ADSL Router (from a Modem), Shareaza plays my internet connection up??

I can browse fine until I open Shareaza, then after a while I can't load pages up. It was all fine whilst on the Modem. Are there some settings I need to change somewhere?

you need to open the ports on the router as it probably has a built in firewall or blocking software

you can try that pops but with your "tin opener" youd probably make a mess or brake the router.

or you could try connecting to it through your web browser using the dhcp assigned ip address

all explained in your routers manual

I had similar problems in the past and one problem may be......

If your router has an inbuilt firewall AND your PC has a software firewall installed
they do NOT like working with each other and you may need to get rid of the PC firewall.
This problem is common with NETGEAR and SISCO routers from my experience.

To test for this, temporarily disable the PC firewall and see if it all starts to work !

Christian, as craig say's, it will tell u in the manual, it is likely the router has an inbuilt firewall and you need to go to a web browser and type in an address / i.p and configure it to let you use certain programs / pages.

I got broadband in my area last week, first BT sent the wrong kit out and then I get told im being charged for their mistake and now I have the correct kit all is connected I sit through an hour of on hold music for them to tell me that my line is daxed and will have to wait X amount of days for it to be sorted before broadband will work great, only been waiting 3 years still aint got the fooker when they said i would!

BT SUCK!

Sorry

*Rant Over*

Yer, that's what I have, it has built in firewall mate, check the manual that comes with it, it says about how it is set to defaulty block some things, I think in the manual under the advanced users section it gives you the url to go to to adjust settings

I respect the purchase m8

The BT Voyager 205 Router comes as part of a broadband package. For Technical Support please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) from the list below;

BT Broadband - 0800 800 060

Should tell you in the router settings that you can allow certain ports open, however, that should only apply to P2P software, not general web browsing. In the event of page cannot be displayed, looks like it could be possibly a trial and error with the advanced settings, open internet explorer, tools, internet options, advanced. Sorry I cannot be of more help m8, but it looks like you'll have to ring the good old people at BT
