Default focus st servicing - wow

ive just downloaded the 10 year service schedule for the ST,

it doesnt need a lot of work doing at all.

a 12.5K or 1 year service is basically oil and filter.
a 25K or 2 years is oil and filter with a brake fluid change.
a 37.5 or 3 year is oil and filter, air filter and plugs.

and then they repeat themselves.

and thats your lot basically. obviously there are other visual checks etc but nothing that is remotely main dealer or even specialist - unless it goes wrong

it doesnt need a cambelt or coolant change until 125K or 10 years

thats some going compared to a YB or CVH.

i know its a newer car - just never actually thought how much things have moved on.

a timing chain.. that would explain it - but it does say on the schedule:

Camshaft drive belt, tensioner and idlers Every 125 000 miles/10 years - Renew
Auxiliary drive belts Every 125 000 miles/10 years - Renew

so i duno?

Things have moved on haven't they!

The thing is Ford are still in the past - most manufactures are going for CBS = condiition based servicing.

Basically changing the oil and filter when there is nothing wrong with it is pointless expence and environmental impact!

i'd expect the oil would need changing after 12.5K from new though,

i'll probabaly drop mine after 1K just to make sure there are no floaters hangin about that shouldnt be..

Not necissarly mate, it all varys on how the car is driven and the type of oil used. From owned my BMW it would vary the length on services and coditions how it was being driven etc. Think i had mine about 15k intervals

VW group on long life service plans are like each service every 25k or something like that Dont particulary like that myself...

That is the best thing about a new car.... Rag the tits out of it and if anyhing breaks to the things back

Wish i could justify having a new car

I think what Alex means is it's totally pointless changing the oil every 12months if the car isn't doing the mileage.

ST being a T5 engine has belt btw.

Not always the case. Mine does less than the service milage every year but i use the car everyday to and from work, so i would still be required to have a anual oil change.

It also has nothing to do witht he fact that I still make sure it has 2 oil changes a year aswell
