Default ST170 Engine Management, Help Needed!

Hi,

The missus ST170's engine management light has come on. Its got 'Bluefin' so ive plugged it in to check what the problem is.

It displayed 'DTC P1518'...

Ive looked it up and got the following;

P1518 - Intake Manifold Runner Control Malfunction (Stuck Open) The IMRC system is monitored for failure during continuous, key ON engine OFF or key ON engine running self-test. The test fails when the signal on the monitor pin is less than an expected calibrated range at closed throttle. IMRC monitor signal circuit shorted to PWR GND or SIG RTN
Damaged IMRC actuator
Damaged PCM
An IMRCM PID reading approximately near 1 volt at closed throttle may indicate a fault

Has anybody got any idea how to fix this (preferrably without goin to Ford )

Any help would be great

Cheers.

Have your tried clearing the fault ?

Does it go when you do so or does it stay ?

I had this the other day - seemed to clear itself so must have just been sticky or slow operating. Guzzler on here said there is a silver control box at back of engine which controls a cable pulled flap on the intake manifold. I was going to attack that next and try checking the cable mechanism wasnt stuck etc but didnt have to in the end.

Yes I've tried clearing it, it comes back more or less straight away.

I cleared it a while back and went from barnsley to hastings and back without it re-occurring. It seems to be when using around town.

Cheers.

Don't get me wrong the car drives fine, throttle is spot on even with engine managment light on... which made me think it was electrical?!?

The cable mechanisms on these do stick.
Check for signs of corrosion.

If you can run the KOEO test (dont know if bluefin will do that)
You will be able to see the mechansim work (or not)

KOEO = Key on Engine Off (ignition on engine not running)

Ive recently adjusted the throttle cable as it wasnt opening fully (common fault apparently)... but, this problem occurred before i adjusted.

The throttle cable seems fine, also checked the throttle for sicking and all seem good

How would i run the KOEO?? Ford?

Cheers.

Most after market code readers can trigger that test but it sounds
like the bluefin doesnt have it. (not thats a bad thing)

If it persists then you must get it sorted as it could affect emissions
and performance.
