Hire & Reward/Cabbing/Taxi Driving.
Anyone on here do it?
Always up for making some extra cash, a friend and i are considering going halves on a large car or small MPV to do this in as we both work nights and we could do it for a few hours during the day.
I'm curious on fees, ins, rent and if theres much money to be made after the outgoings have been paid?

If you share a car it may be worth it. MPV may be better as you can get more money for multi person runs (one guy I know can take 8 and charges for it) for airports, or nights out.
There can be horrendous outgoings though. Insurance is pretty bad, and also specifically reward related, ie, you can't drive another car that is on a "normal" policy, and be covered for 3rd party.
You have to get the car complianced tested at least once a year. They can be real harsh on this. Even a small dent in the door would fail it. Some councils are harsher than others.
Then there's the rental for the radio if you are hackney carriage.
Basically, the longer you can keep the car running, the more money you can make. Don't see many one man band part time outfits these days.

you need hire/reward insurance
you need to pay the rental for the radio
you need a license
you need to have the car plated (in most cases)
you need to get a crb check
then you can start looking for someone who will hire you
alternativly, some places will do this for you, but you need a ew quid to get started
long gone are the days where you could turn up in a motor and expect someone to get you going and then use the account customers to pay your radio fees, pick up punters from the street and all sorts of other stuff
i did look into all of this when i got my 3 door insured as a minicab (cheapest option ) but when you factor in fuel and the taxman, you really need to be working more hours than a couple a day to make it worth your while

As above.
Apply through your local licencing office for your badge, My local council is full medical and CRB every 3 years, and renewal every 12 months all to be paid by yourself (12 monthly renewal is just short of a 1er)
Then you need a vehicle which is or will have to be plated, here again we are on 6 monthly plates where we have 2 mega strict MOT's totalling £300 a year.
Private Hire Insurance is about £250 a month TPFT
Radio rental for me was £90 a week
Friday and saturdays are the best nights, what i would suggest doing is asking around the firms and see if anyone wants a weekend driver (or what days you plan to work) and they will generally go half bag (half what you take after fuel).
If you find someone willing, apply for your badge, work and see if you like it plus you get an idea of how much you could earn before plunging in 2 footed and getting a motor etc.
