got to get this off my chest! how would you feel UPDATED P4
if you sold a car to someone and their exact words are"im going to get the engine rebuilt in a month anyway".
a week later they are on the phone bacuae there is an apparent engine fault-out of the blue 2 valves have decided t hit a piston and cuase a misfire.cut a lng story short-i get partially threatened with legal action as he has someone who works for solicitors,im moving house and mithered to death.he tells me engine rebuild is going to cost £1000-1200.i offer £500 towards the rebuild.all seems to be well
car then comes up for sale and has had new head gasket/bolts-NO engine rebuild,NOT EVEN a new piston and 2 valves.he has now sold the car and doesnt really want to talk to me about where my money has gone.
thats just the bare bones of it-would you be pissed
half of me says just leave it-but the other half is fuckin livid.
its worse cos its someone off here which was one of the factors to me even considering any contribution in the first place.
maybe what comes around goes around

the engine runs ok now.so it didnt need a piston/2 valves/rebuild.
it was a cossie and has a bit of piston slap when i sold it.
i only found out it was for sale because someone rang me for advice about it yesterday-for some reason it wasnt on passion ford for sale.

im sure now i have started this he will give his side of events-but the fact is i agreed to CONTRIBUTE towards a full engine rebuild because the car had apparently failed within a week fo selling it to him.the £500 was not to pay fully for any repairs-it was a contribution.
the head gasket may have cost £500 in total with labour-even though his mate did it.but it wouldnt have cost me that had i have been allowed to do it-it was stripped before i even knew about it-normally i would have fucked him off as it should have come straight back to me,but i was moving house and he was threatening legal action, and was someone on here.
what i did expect was more work needing doing than it seems to have had

very very bad of them IMO....when i sell a car i always try to make sure it's perfect, and if any troubles arise i'd do my best to help out.....which sounds exactly like what you have done.....
so if someone pulled a fast one like that,i'd be extremely pissed off!!!
defo well out of order!!

but if he sold it with a broken engine(which he hasnt) i would want to know even more where my money had gone-it wasnt a refund as such-it was a contribution towards some repairs.

Thats not on tbh mate, i say name and shame!
Just to add i bought my car off Jay. Most helpfull person i have bought a car off, and was honest with me about everything. Even told me what he thought needed replacing soon[just brake disc's etc.].
Jay's allways had time for me at meets and shows etc. I would defo buy another car off him.

Are you sure they haven't had a new piston and valves???
they may have neglected to tell the new owner about these being done,as it may put people off (thinking it may have hidden damage somewhere)

all i want to know is what has been done to the car-
i never got to inspect the head as it had apparently already been sent away.
if its only had a head gasket and bolts i feel im not unfair to ask for some money back-i know i wont get it and im certainly not going to go nd kick his door in over a few hundred quid, what fucks me off is i gave him £500 towards a full engine rebuild, not for a head gasket or even 1 piston and 2 valves!

Fucker
Been in an almost identical situation to you.
When I sold my car last year, I advertised in on here and listed EVERY
problem and it was advertised with a failing crank shaft and the fact
it needed a rebuild was there for all to see hence why I sold it cheap.
The guy said he was going to rebuild it but then just flogged it on for a
large profit margin without touching the engine but told the new owner
the engine had JUST been rebuilt by me
Anyway, a month or two later, I get a phone call from an irate person
saying that the engine has failed due to oil pressure problems
and he asked what I was going to do about it.
I explained everything and pointed him to my original for sale post which
is still on passion ford cars for sale and everything as far as I was
concerned was sorted.
I confronted the first purchaser who IS a member on here and he
just blanked me saying it was a big missunderstanding.....Coont
Should name and shame him but thats not my style.

hope it gets resolved, you have a definite right to be very very suspicious, maybe even reason to get police involved?

cheeky fooker should return your money, thats a disgrace.
...and why on earth did you give someone £500 without inspecting the car?
sounds like you have been shafted.
small claims court - costs you £30

I remeber the post that jay put up and if he has taken the money and not done the work then it is out of order as jay did give him the money in good faith most people would have just told the guy to do one

This kind of shit gets my back up i bought a evo6 2 years ago & after 2 days the transfer box went bang the warranty company would only pay the first £500(not worth the paper it was written on) so i phoned the garage i bought the car from & they told me just to sell the car on & i never got a penny & had to fix the car out of my own pocket....
& you get jay paying out to help someone & this is what happens i wish i had bought a car from you

its just really got my back up as i felt partly obliged to help out even though i didnt have to and could have got away with not giving him anything.
when i gave the money to him i was on the understanding it was a contribution towards an engine rebuild that was going to be done on the car immediately.
a short while ago i found out he was not intending to do a full engine build due to some personal circumstances, which rubbed me up the wrong way,but he was apparently losing his job so i felt a bit sorry for him.so i thought he was buying a piston and 2 valves and putting it back together.
now it seems the car never needed the piston and 2 valves to have it running ok as it is now running ok and they havent been replaced.
i got a call yesterday from someone looking to buy it and they informed me it had had a head gasket fitted and nothing more.they just wanted some info about the car.
i cant help but feel that the car clearly didnt need a rebuild/piston/valves and the fault was elsewhere-maybe an ignition fault as the car has just had a distributor/leads/sensors!
the big issue as far as im concerned is that my money was towards an engine rebuild and the engine rebuild never happened, but my money has gone.
surely im right-i gave him the benefit of the doubt and didnt inspect the damage and now i feel like i have been duped-maybe not intentionally at first but the car has not had an engine rebuild has it?
