Thats why i said LOOKS a good example it might be shit for all i know?????????

Point being i would spend 12k on it with standard wheels, the owner is willing to let it go for 13k i'm willing to pay 12k so we'd be stuck thus no deal.

As said i can choose to be picky and try and get 1 for a bargain price cause i dont really want 1 and aint looking specifically for 1

why do you think you will have to fix a cossie ?? thats why you buy a good one in the first place,a Cossie is as reliable as any other car as long as its looked after
i know they can be realible mate all my friends have been but at end of the day its 15y/o roughly and are designed to last about 10 from factory therefor your going to be constantly replacing stuff and not just servicable parts. if they are driven hard alot the will break no doubt about that..your parts business wouldnt be as busy if this wasnt the case surely?
sorry bud your so wrong I just MOTed a 28K Escort Cossie and the MOT tester said he had never seen a car so clean for its age, what did it fail on ?? 2 tyres so if thats the parts that you are on about that needs replacing I dont have a problem with that, one question have you ever owned a Cossie ?? or or you just quoting here say ??

are we still talking about 10k cossies here ?? considering that cars only done about 2k a year since new its slightly different surely
i havent owned one but enough of my mates do and have.theres dont really break that much tbh but there all tucked up in garages under covers.and they paid more than 10k.

They will only go up in price as long as Mitsubishi & Subaru keep launching new cars each year. These cars are modern day classics. If you totalled up how many Escort cosworths were made for road/rally(remember the shape never changed in 7 years) against how many evos and subarus there have ever been made its self explanatory.

"things that there are less of are always worth more"

However these cars have been for ale for months and months and simply aint selling giving me the impressin that the general public just wont pay these prices anymore. The prices are pretty high still, way above what they're worth. Do what I did, buy an R33 GTR Skyline with 28000 miles on the clock for Ł10k and enjoy a car that would destroy an Escos on the twisty bits, and the track too come to think of it! Yep, it's a cult car and I loved both of the ones I used to own, but a Skyline is cheaper and soooooo much worth the money.

I await abuse!lol.

Andy
Andy

Loose a cossie with a skyline who are you trying to kid you must still have the skyline for sale i quess

Damn, shot down by Paul and Pete, I was waiting for that!lol. I was only selling the R33 as my wife hates it so much, she still hasn't sat in it, and I was thinking about TVR's. But I'm keeping it now, it really is an amazing machine imo. I could never get either of my Escorts to slide, maybe that means they have to much grip? But I find the R33 so much more rewarding on roundabouts etc. But yeh, I agree, the Escort is a true classic and is a nicer looking car than a Skyline.

We'll agree to disagree Gents.

they took the hit a few years ago,,,even the good ones went down. They have now gone back up for good examples. The ones that dont sell usually have a reason why....its not rocket science..

if i'm correct there is a escort cos on autotrader that sounds similar
to the one the big fella from warrington was selling, its a juicy 1500
more though,i laugh when i see these posts saying that escort cosworths
are going to take a massive dive in value, when every RS i have ever
owned bar mk5 escort or fiesta ,is worth more than when i sold it.
in 1998 my uncle bought a 96 n reg impreza mcrae from Warrender for 18K, a escort cos there was the same price,he absolutly blew his cash
away and lost thousands, i told him to get the escort

oh and i have had a evo 5,6,7,8 and a st escort cos and a bt escort
cos and the escort is the best handling car i have ever driven on
dry tarmac roads, not on crap roads or in the wet though

i think we agree entirely there are loadsa of cars that are "better" cars than an Escort Cossie, but some own an Escort Cossie because that is the car they want

hell I've owned a Subaru STi 8 + PPP and an Evo GSR VIII with 350hp and a BMW 330Ci but none of 'em come close to my cossie, sod it I might pop out to the garage and have another look:

you have to look at each car and drive them before you can even comnt surely on what they are worth anyway ?? as an example my mate went to view a car that was for sale on here for 16k private that was supposedly ex concours bla bla and was totally wanked over on here by everyone saying that car was mint etc was worth more and all that crap when in reality it was a shed and hadnt seen a coat of polish in years let alone a concours event he then saved himself the hassle and bought a minter of duncan at automotive for 14k .which in reality could have been bought for less if private as trader was obvously making sumthing.

I dont think Alps can afford anything over Ł12k TBH

You get what you pay for IMO and i can only see the good cars still demanding good money, this year, next year and the year after!

i have found that i have never been able to sell escort cossies for decent money.i have sold a few this year and they have all been under Ł11000.

i have recently sold a very nice original 51000 miles escos large turbo for Ł10500,a stage 3 red one for Ł11000,
i have got an n reg white one for sale at mo for Ł11500 and havent sold it,maybe if i drop it to Ł11000.....

In holland the prices for Escort cosworth's are stil rising. And I think they will rice (not forever, but atleast for +- 10 yrs)

For example:
In 2002 I was looking for an 1995 ST escort. Price : Ł6k

That same car was for sale in 2005 for Ł11k. (with 30.000 more km's).

Today a normal price for a GOOD example ST is about Ł12k, en for a BT Ł13k. Mint ones will cost Ł15-16k

Bad ones go for +- Ł6-7k (I mean really bad ones).

You seem to be basing your argument on one example, which to be fair was probably a nice car, but im sure it wouldnt have been 'mint'. Its been discussed a few times that that car was under priced for a quick sale due to the slow market in the winter, for a quick turnaround.

Yes there is one or two that have been for sale for a while, but theres also plenty of RST's and saff's that have been for sale for ages so does that mean that the RST's are not worth Ł2k, of the saffs not worth Ł4k? Alot of the time, its up to the owner to help sell the car.
Alot of escos owners just put it up for sale on PF and/or RSOC, and if it sells it sells, if it doesnt, theyll keep it, so dont mind either way as they dont HAVE to sell the car. Alot of owners dont actually TRY to sell them by advertiseing everywhere including autotrader. People forget that advertising on PF and RSOC is only covering a very small percentage of the potential market.

If you bring this back up closer to the summer, then you may have a different view on the subject.

As ive said before, any car of this age and value is going to be hard to sell, especially at this time of the year, and most owners rightly stick to their price as they know that come summer time, theyll get closer to what they want for them.

As long as a standard car can be broken for spares for about Ł8-10k, then even rough ones will fetch this much, nice ones fetching Ł12-15k, with mint or near mint ones going for Ł15k+. And i expect them to stay around these values as the demand for parts is always going to be high, even increasing as numbers decrease.

Tbh now you hve poited out its the time of year it might well be. I aint basing my view on jays 1 car i used it as an example as he is well known on here ad known to be a decent bloke and prices fair, look at his post above he has 2 for 11k that he cant shift and peoples opinions on here is that 11k will only get a bent shitter.

I cant be arsed arguing about what i personally think, i started the post to get ther peoples views and opinions on the subject. I didnt start the thread because i want to buy 1 as i make my mind up on my own anyway

what gets me about all this is the "issue" that an escort cossie which is advertised at a price under the usual avarage price for one (notice I am delibrately not putting in a value) is deemed to be crap/ a shit box etc.

ok so you see a small advert in exchange and mart

escort cos N reg white, 2 owners ,fsh, average mileage, fair condition, standard not modified,
9K ono

if you were in the market for a very nice escort would you ring???

probably not...yes?

what if the reality was that the car was mint apart from a few stonechips and the owner has retired from driving due to hitting 80 year old, the car hasn't seen rain since he got it and the reason it was described as fair condition was bacause thats his opinion of fair as it has stonechips on it

does that sound like a better car??

my own car was described vin the advert very similar to this some 4 years ago when I paid 11k for it, yes it's not mint it has sonechips and a scratch on it but thats about it, the underside is still grey with no rust.

using it only during the summer does help tho!

i agree. its the same old story of peoples opinions of the conditions of their cars vary....you have to look at loads.
When buying both mine, i looked at loads and never saw a decent one under 14k...well about 15k tbh, but some people DO find them

Totally agree that was my point they can be found for that money obviously 9 out of 10 would be wank but not all that the point. The only thing keepig the prices up is the owners attitude "if i dont get 15k for it i'll keep it", if it dont sell for 15k its obviously not worth that in th real world, thus lowering the price and being able to sell it.

You keep saying this but there ARE selling. Come summer, im sure the 'decent' ones that are struggling now due to time of year, will sell for what the owners want. Theres just as many of them selling, that arnt. I personally cant see jap cars affecting the prices as theyve been around for ages now and prices have stayed consistent.
