I would only have a large turbo model bud. Plus as i've said all along i aint desperate to buy 1 so will just plod on in the integra and if 1 comes along that tickles my fancy i'll take a look. As i said it was only this motorsport that was up for 8k that spured me into thinking about 1 tbh, lucky for me i'm in a good position to buy because i dont have to sell my car o fund 1

It's simple, you'll either prove everyone wrong by buying a good one for the price you want, or you will have to dig deeper to purchase the car of the required standard.

The former will require being in the right place at the right time (it can happen, as this is how I acquired my car) or the patience of a saint . However, there is nothing like waving pound notes under someone's nose to make them waiver and lower the price . In view of that, I would sincerely recommend viewing LOTS of them, as you may just end up being in that right place...

My opinion, and I dare say most people won't agree with me on here Is that Escort cosworths are amazing cars, wanted one ever since I first saw one when I was a teenager. However I wouldnt pay the money people want for them these days. (not that I don't think they're worth it) I'd just rather spend the same money on an EVO and get a better car for my money. Yeah i'd lose money on the evo but I'd eventually turn it into a track/sprint car anyway so would probably not sell it for years, and I wouldnt have the coworth heritage but at the end of the day i'd be driving round in a car without worrying about it breaking down or someone trying to nick it.

I agree 100% with what your saying but all i have said all along is that a 60k usable non showroom condition car but GOOD can be had for 12-13k. I understand that there are loads of shit heaps in this price range but at the same time 15k doesnt mean the car would be great. The problem with escort cossie prices is the price is based on the owners opinion of what his beloved car is worth and often WAY off the mark imo, as it was when i was looking at saphs a few years back

I agree on the focus rs bit ut i dont think they will ever go as low as a series2 tbh. Think they will EVENTUALLY go down to 8k and stay there like saphs they seem to have hit 5k ish and have stopped dead, possibly even gone up slightly

Go and look at LOTS and you will get a feel for them . Looking at photo ads tells you NOTHING about the car, other than the OWNER'S opinion as you quite rightly state. Once you have seen the HUGE difference in OWNER'S views of there own car's you can make a choice.

right now on automart website there's 25 escort cosworths and
only 3 are private sellers, either car dealers are onto somthing
,or private punters don't bother with autotrader much and whack them on here and the rsoc.
and the 8 grander is only 1k more than a lookalike.
,it makes the real deal look cheap

I had that when i had a Pacific Blue Big Turbo mate.
Really annoying, so i p/x`d it at a garage against an Evo 8
What a mistake ( another story )
Was just sick of idiots & time wasters + i wasnt a member of this site then
It was a Ford Press car hence plate K36 FMC. Would have sold well on here i think

Its the 8k 1 that could possibly be mine at the weekend bud, i was expecting odd panel gaps and rust everywhere and a smokey engine. Non of the above . Had 1k respray a year ago with no signs of any bad areas reapearing, engine rebuild with new turbo 4k miles ago, all panel gaps are good, needs a good clean undr the bonnet and a good polish and it will be a good straight drivable escort for not a lot of money

ALPS PACINO.

K36 FMC I P/X`D & SOLD FOR 11,750 which was a bloody good price as 6 months previous it had a Full Respray, Brand new Ford Splitters, Defltctor & hockey sticks. Brand new alloy wheels from Fords with Dunlop SP9000 tyres. New turbo. Had a re-build and had only done 6,000 miles on it. Car was running approx 350bhp. Car had done 100k but drove like 50k.
Previous owner was an injection specialist & bought the car off Ford.
I fancied a change at the time as id owned Cosworths for years. Had the Evo8 for 2 weeks & regreted selling the Escort. Even went back to the garage, but he sold the Escort in 3 days for 13k

As i've said all along there ae good cars out there for 11-12k imo just 9 out of 10 of them will be want. The other side of it is always a problem 2 where top money cars turn out to be wank, there the type of car where the prices are only a reflection of what the owners think there worth and more often than not its higher thn what there really worth

I don't doubt that in a few years time they'll be as little as Ł7K-Ł8K, but I wouldn't be surprised if in 20 years time that there are examples being sold for more than that.

As you said, look at the RST, you still see the odd low mileage, standard, mint ERST up for nearly as much as it cost originally!

I think the thing people forget is that 20k in 20 years time doesnt have the same value as it does today. So in reality people who bought frs's and stored them in the hope that they will be still worth 20k in 20 year time are wasting there time

You think??? Every evo owner i know or have heard of have had to spend thousands on maintenance and repairs. If you think there going to be 100% reliable, your in for a HUGE shock mate.

I was debabting over an evo 6 and an escos, before i got mine. As soon as i went out for a drive in an escos, (even as a passenger!!), my mind was made up within seconds.

Drive both and see what you think.

Thats the same for every other car for sale mate, be it an escos or a 1.0 micra. Most nice escos' DO sell, just as most nice 1.0 micras sell, with overpriced cars with issues being avoided or taking longer to sell. Your case would be slightly stronger nearer to summer, if these few good cars dont sell then.

If you really want one you are goign to pay what people are asking. They are a cult car with an top spec. Cars like that will always hold value. As time goes on and more people use them then the mint low mileage ones are going to go thruogh the roof! The question you need to ask yourself is do you want to pay 14K for a 10-12 year old car, if the answer is yes then get one bought and bugger it!!!

Not reading the whole thread.... usual crap different day...

IMO ECos prices will come down significantly if/when a 3-400 brake 4WD Focus RS goes into production....... till then, they will remain strong and solid for the right cars, as time goes on ther will be even less ECos' on the road let alone nice ones...

But as its the last "proper" homologated, rally inspired RS it has a strong heritage and IMO true cult status.... That will remain forever.....

i agree with lambchop-when i bought the evo 6 i had the 51000 mile escos in at the same time.i could have saved a lot of money and kept the escort but after driving them both back to back-evo is much better all round imop.i would say the escos looks better though.

Drive both and see what you think.

You must have big blinkers! Seriously! I have driven an esc cossie and i've driven an evo 6 gsr and an 8 FQ340 and would i fuck pick the esc cos as the best car to drive
Totally agree with you there Chop, that's why I chose to keep the Evo over the Escos. An Escos seems so lardy with it's handling compared to the awesome handling of the Evo.

It's just supply and demand isn't it - they'll fetch what people will pay.

Has anyone who has driven an AE86 Corolla think it's worth 5k for a nice-ish example?

I know someone in Shrewsbury who sold a black C-reg one over the phone to a guy from Ireland - needed some work doing but had 4 months MOT - you wouldn't believe how many phonecalls he had.

I'm not exaggerating when I say I reckon he could have sold it 4 or 5 times over with NO HAGGLING.

They were cheaper to buy 15 years ago!

Same goes for Mk2 RS 2ks doesn't it - I couldn't buy one in the same nick now for what I bought both mine in mid 80s

Nothing to do with blinkers mate. My point was that the escos has something 'special' about it that the evo doesnt, in my opinion of course. And thats a reason why the escos holds its value as opposed to the evo.

For me, owning an escos is not just about performance, its about the 'whole package'. That was my point mate.

Both great cars, and eah to their own, but for me, the escos had far more pros than cons over the evo.
