jesus christ how many times
the Evo is a far better car than the Escos but I personally don't think many people when buying an Escort Cossie have any other car in the frame they just WANT an escort cossie!!!
like S1 RST is saying and I totally agree and understand where he is coming from I wouldn't swap my Escort Cossie for ANY Evo because they are not an Escort Cossie. In all the time I owned my Scoob/Evo if I ever saw an Escort Cossie on the road I would nearly wet myself with excitement, now I've got my escort cossie and I see a Scoob/Evo I don't even give them a second glance
I have had my daughter's friends come round and ask if I can open the garage to let them have a look at the Cossie its a local celebrity, was the Evo ever like this, was it fuck
and I personally think the Escort Cossie rules and always will regardless of what wet lettuce, water downed piece of shit Ford decide to build next probably an S-Max with 20" wheels anyway

Bargin ones do exist...... it's all about being in the right place at the right time. Ultimately though, you will have to accept that to get a decent one you will have to pay proper money.
Personally, I think they are way overpriced now for what they are...... especially as they were nothing that special when they came out in the first place (apart from the fact that they had the same bodyshell as the WRC car).
They are the same price now as what they were when I bought my first one in 1998...... now they have 3 times as much mileage on and are 3 times as knackered!

Lynne,
I wonder if you will still feel the same, when your Escort in two years time will STILL be worth more than your Evo .
Escorts have remained at a similar value for TEN years . I remember when second hand year old Evo 6's were MORE money than old K plate Escorts, then the Escorts remained at that same value and Evo's lost 10k .
I know you can't just look at things fiscally, and the Evo is EASILY the better standard car, but like Andy says, I wouldn't swap my Escort for ANY Evo - there is something about Cossies that gets under your skin and nearly everyone I know comes back to them eventually - the call is just too strong .

My evo quote was hundreds more than the escos, and the economy would be far worse, which was another plus for the escos!!

Cossie on a run 18mpg.
Evo on a run [6 gears] 29.7mpg.
Evo doesn't need remapping every 12 months.
Evo much better car IMO.
Mike My Evo hasn't devalued at all since I bought it a year ago, I got it at a very good price and others with the same spec as mine are still selling now for more than what I paid.
I won't be back into cossie ownership, that I can assure you of.

Lynne,
For your Cossie to only do 18mpg on a run, then there is something wrong with it . As to needing mapping every 12 months, again, something wrong if that is the case.
Before my car was live mapped after the dyno, I got the same mpg as you - on a run it did 18mpg, caned it did 18mpg. Once it was mapped and properly set up, I can get nearly 300miles per tankful if driven sensibly .

Have evo's really dropped that much in value???????????????
I havent been looking at the prices so not 100% but they seem to have been aound the 12k mark for the past 4ish years for a decent evo6

I bought my Evo VIII GSR for Ł22,500 ex demo with 800 miles on the clock after 18 months it was worth around 12K as a trade in maybe a bit more for a private sale
next year with the Evo X around the corner ?????
I think the 6 will hold value much better because they are more like a cossie and have a bit of extra pizaaaaaz where as the 7/8 evo's will just keep dropping I reckon and become forgotten examples

But when most people compare an evo to a cossie they seem to take the evo6 as the comparison, until it comes to a negative then they take the worst of the bunch. Imo the 6 seems to be holding its value as well as an escort and has done so for the past 4-5 years. Just looked on the trader and there around the 11k mark which is round about what i expected

Lynne,
The car should be regularly checked over for sensor failures, boost leaks and the like, but I can't see why it needs a re-map every 12 months . It's not like the mechanical set-up on an RST that regularly goes out of tune .
I would like further calrification on your comments, as it just doesn't make sense .

I thinkRedkop means it should be taken to a tuner and checked over every year which tbh i would agree with on a cosie running 380bhp, bettr to be safe thn sorry, where as on a standard evo thee is no need cause its only a standard car. But you shouldnt compare a modded motor to a standard 1 as its not a fair comparison

you can pick up an 05 plate MR FQ320 for 20K now they must of been around Ł30K new and would imagine in another 12 months they will be down to around 15K

I would have NEVER took my cossie on track because i know that it just wouldnt cope. Not that my saph was a shed cause it was a nice 1, i however do wih my integra cause i know 100% it will do it well and then take me home. I understand there is a 15 year gap between the 2 cars but cossie owners still say there cars are better even with the age gap which i dont think is entirely true.
I prefer cossies thats why i am loosly looking for an escort and not an evo6 although i am realistic tha t an evo6 is better as far as a car goes i just a lump of metal

I've done loads of track days in my Saff, never missed a beat. Done Combe several times, 600+ mile round trip with a track day in the middle, piece of piss.
Thats not to say that the paranoia doesn't exist tho...

Looking on autotrader now, it seems theres loads of 6's advertised under Ł10k and some even under Ł9k, although some of these may very well be dogs, but most seem to be reasonable miles. I think if you had about Ł11k now, you could take your pick from the good ones. So thats at least a few grand less in only 12 months!!!!
I even looked at some at Ł15-Ł17k, and again some were nice but some had issues and were overpriced imo. Which supports may comments made about the thread topic, that its the same for any car, be it escos, evo, skyline and even punto's.
