Default Quick actuator question

I've just fitted a -31 to my cossie and fitted it like I was told but the boost was too high. I lengthened the rod to reduce the boost like I was told to do but now I've gone so far that the car is so laggy and still producing too much boost

Any ideas?

Thanks

I've got to the point where I have none now It's actually gone that far now that the wastegate is open I started off with half the hole covering the wastegate arm and kept winding it out in an attempt to lower the boost

Does that make sense?

Yeah mate makes sense, wierd why its doing that though

Was it doing it before you fitted the -31? Could be a split vaccum hose or something?

I should also mention the car was standard and this is supposed to be stage 1.

What are you trying to set the boost to? And do you have an amal valve?

Might be worth checking the jetting in the amal valve, if you take all the pipes off and none have little white plastic restrictors in then that may be your problem

I've been told stage 1 is 14-16 psi so I'm trying to set it up for 14 psi to be safe. Things I've changed are the actuator and the chip and that's it.

Does a chip try and control boost pressure through the engine management on Cosworths?

Why dont you just ring teh supplier of the chip and actuator and get the instructions that you are obviously missing. I can see you losing the engine at the rate your currently progressing with guesswork.

They aren't open on a Sunday I am very gently trying to set it.

I fitted both parts this afternoon. I thought it'd be more straight forward I will admit

I'll make some calls tomorrow and if I don't get anywhere I'll return the car to standard tomorrow evening.

No your not mate. You simply dont have teh instructions that teh mapper gave. Amal restrictors, peak boost and held boost are all down to teh mapper as teh amal has its own MAP.

Get it wrong, bye bye engine. Thats why all decent conversions come with comprehensive instructions, or at least bloody well should do.

It's a potential £5k disaster waiting to happen if you just meddle with boost.

so true what stu says , only the people who spec'd the chip can say what you should do, and how you should do it as the chip will be written with these mods in mind,

when i got my stu chip ,the instructions were easy to follow, and told me exactly how to up the boost.... i wasnt left to guess how it should be done.

I'm doing it the safe way, driving my car to a tuners, with a stage1 chip on the front seat next to a money box of pound notes, then driving home a while later with the chip and cash missing from the seat....

As above, best to do it properly

From your post earlier I realised that I was wrong I am used to just fitting a chip and it works and controls the boost but I'm in a different world here now thankfully.

I now realise and know that I have to speak to the people that produced the chip and get it set-up to what they say. I made the mistake if thinking that you fitted the chip & actuator and bingo

Thanks to everyone for their help, I haven't been on the cossie scene very long and I'm learning

My plan was/is to get the car close to what the originators of the chip recommend then get it checked out before monstering the car.
