Any1 work for BT,or are a Broadband Whizz??
I have a problem with my broadband .........
basically for the last 6 weeks or so i haven't been able to get a connection at home,i called and called and called orange but they were unable to solve the problem for a month, i then bumped them and switched to Be, now my connection date was today, but just as i thought i still cannot get a connection, basically i cannot get the DSL light on the Be modem to come on?
the problem with the old modem (with orange) was the same,no ADSL light or a flashing ADSL light.
I am connected to the master socket directly usind a filter (which i have tried swapping for a different one) the aim to connect wirelessly from my computer upstairs.
there are no other devices using the phone line in the entire house, just me on the master socket.
also i have been told to connect to the 'test' socket on the reverse of the master socket,i looked but there isn't one there? (it's a fairly old socket i guess)
Both Orange and Be have performed numerous line tests, and from what they can see there is no problem and should be able to get a connection, but i can't..
is there any other tests or anything i can do to speed this process up a bit
PLEASE help

if you look in the config pages you will see if ur router is seeing you connection. ie: the up and down speed.
if it doesnt even see these figures and you are plugged in as you say, your connection is not on! speak to your supplier and get them to sort it.
if it is seeing the connection then check all setting inc user name and password.
hope this helps.

ok.......
i also have a laptop pc that i use for work, this laptop has wireless centrino doofa built in.
i used the laptop to search for the wireless network and it found it fine, connected to it fine but then when i load up internet explorer,i get a message saying i have no DSL connection.
so basically i know the modem works fine,it's just that there's no DSL signal comng into the modem (or however you word it )
the problem is more to do with the BT socket i think, but i don't know how to test it

Is the ADSL training?
On any half decent router/modem you should have a DSL light which is saying weather it can see ADSL signal and a internet connection light which is saying its logged on and you should be able to browse.
If you have no ADSL/DSL light then try rebooting modem. If still no joy whats your phone line like? Crackles/cut offs? if so 154 it or log a fault on bt.com
The may have missed the date for your go live to it happens. Are they able to confirm they have connected you. Can they see your modem trying to connect to the radius?

i don't actually use the phone line for anything but the internet,so don't have a handset to try at the mo,but i'll try that asap. i suspect it's gonna be noisy!!!
as for contacting BT,i switched to Pipex a few months back so i'll probably have to call them first

This is the problem with using 3rd parties to supply broadband. I had the exact problem as no fooker wanted to deal with the problem.
However they dont like it when you ring the every hour for an update. At least with pipex you get to speak to some one who speaks our language. Onetel call centres (who im with) are pants.
I think you have a fault on the line. They had to change pairs in the street as there was an earth problem.

looks like you need to plug a phone in and test if you have a dail tone and also see what the line quality is like before you can do anything else really. anoying to say the least m8
good luck.

pm me ur phone number i'll give it alittle test see if its testing fine. does it just not connected or is it on and off/slow? You may well find the lines fine but the orange adsl has been disconnected in the exchange etc if the lights off competely but the lines fine.
By test socket they simply mean take off the front plate with the extensions on. though u may well get confused at this if u have an old type of socket. With no removeable front plate!!!!

Tests 1-leg dis fella. Now i dont know whether thats where u took the socket off and knocked a wire OR the probable cause its disconnected in the network somewhere!!! Give them a call again And tell them u want an engineer out. Though check the socket first and dial tone before u do.
If you get an engineer around and it is a problem in the house they'll charge u prolly 80-100quid so be nice and buy um a beer... i'm sure they wont charge lol.
Taz- yep openreach mate lol!!!

basicly the line works on two wires, That results telling me one is disconnected somewhere! I'd ring Orange if its just a bb problem and BT if its got no dial tone. Good luck with those call centres

you have been asked to test the socket because it appears that you have a simple and common DSL socket sync issue
Common problems involving disconnections are usually due to electronic interference on the telephone line. Because of the frequencies used with ADSL internal wiring can act as an aerial for picking up interference. This can usually be verified by a simple test with the ADSL equipment at the BT master socket.
The image above shows a standard BT master socket. You will normally have just one of these on your telephone line usually near to where the telephone cable enters your premises.
You can identify the master socket by the split frontplate. Inside the mastersocket is an engineers test socket - this is located underneath the bottom half of the face plate, to the right. The two screws on the bottom half will need to be removed in order to remove the lower half of the faceplate. The faceplate simply pulls out, once unscrewed.
All of your extension sockets in the house are wired into this faceplate so these will no longer work while the faceplate is removed.
This shows the mastersocket with the faceplate removed. The socket on the right is the engineers test socket.
To test your master socket you will need to connect your ADSL equipment into the test socket. Use only the short cable supplied with your ADSL modem. Do Not use long extension leads as these can themselves be the source of the problem.
If the problem has disappeared then it is either your internal wiring or something plugged into the line causing which was causing the problem. You will need to check your internal wiring in this case.
If the problem still persists then either there is a problem with the BT line, or your equipment is at fault.
hope this helps

as above mate,i don't have that kind of socket/faceplate. although i am tempted to replace the one i have for a new one (read on below)
UPDATE
i just had a neighbours phone connected to the master socket, and guess what....NO FRICKING DIAL TONE
can i just change the socket and it might work,or does this mean i have a problem further away than the master socket (that BT would need to sort)

is the box you got a full face one..or ones pictured above
see if its on this page... http://www.telephonesuk.co.uk/line_jacks.htm
if so will be connected to the 2 and 5 terminals..
i`d say that the line was never connected up properly when you swapped provider..
you will really need an eng.. or try and find a engineer locally and offer a drink to check it...
