I have a problem with my broadband

basically for the last 6 weeks or so i haven't been able to get a connection at home,i called and called and called orange but they were unable to solve the problem for a month, i then bumped them and switched to Be, now my connection date was today,but just as i thought i still cannot get a connection, basically i cannot get the DSL light on the Be modem to come on?
the problem with the old modem (with orange) was the same,no ADSL light or a flashing ADSL light.
I am connected to the master socket directly usind a filter (which i have tried swapping for a different one) the aim to connect wirelessly from my computer upstairs.
there are no other devices using the phone line in the entire house,just me on the master socket.
also i have been told to connect to the 'test' socket on the reverse of the master socket,i looked but there isn't one there? (it's a fairly old socket i guess)
Both Orange and Be have performed numerous line tests,and from what they can see there is no problem and should be able to get a connection,but i can't..
is there any other tests or anything i can do to speed this process up a bit
