Default Bike-engined kit cars??

Thinking of building one next year perhaps. Heard of 4sec 0-60 times, but a top speed of only around 115?Is this right?

Was thinking of the MK indy kit, anyone had any experience of this kit?

What do you do about reverse?are the kits expensive?

Mates got a fzr 1000 engine i could have for next to nothing, that be suitable?

what the bike engined minis use, is a starter motor connected to the axle for reverse. sounds funny but does the job

Fisher fury would get my vote, or if you can afford it a dax rush MC. Be aware that they are horrible on long motorway journeys, very tiring as your cruising at 8000rpm. Unless its turbo'd then its nice and quiet (ish).

roughly how much are the fisher fury kits? Would prefer a caterham stylie one though.

Dax is a bit out of my price range sadly!

I have an MK Indy. They have a new chassis with inboard shocks out at the minute.

If i was buying a chassis again i would probably look at an MNR. Marc norden (owner) is an ex racer and very nice chap. They seem to be well made.

Nowdays i would build my own from scratch.

Bike engines are graet for sprints/track days but lack of suitable ratio diffs means they can be a pain on the road.

I've just bought a Westfield kit, but I'm going for throttle bodied Zetec power as I already have the engine and most of the parts

I chose them because they seem to have the best reputation in the kit car business and are based just down the road from me and are very helpful

You get what you pay for IMO. I looked at MK etc and they just looked flimsy in comparison, and all odd angles. And TBH, the Westfield wasn't that much more expensive

I also plumped for the new facelift FW (featherweight) body style they've just started making

but yeah, the Megabusa (Hayabusa engined) Westfield is also very popular

cheers chaps!

Garage 19 have you got any pics of yours?

It's only going to be a bit of a toy, will do some sprints in it. But would like to use it on the road, not that bad for occasional use are they? I'm use to high revving bikes etc.

I'm fabricator by trade but would much rather buy a chassis finished as i dont think it would get finished to be honest! Might change my mind when i see the quality of some of the kits!

bttt for anyone else

Mate built one complete and on the road for 8k, including blowing up the first engine. The fury's have much more cockpit space than a 7, and slightly more areodynamic.

I think the bigger engines can muster 135MPH V.MAX, would like to know what a Busa Turbo can manage, aerodynamics make them struggle but to get to 100 as quick on 4wheels would take so much more money in a cossie
I would like a bike engined kit car for track use, would be ideal There is a premium for a reverse gear best keep the missus handy

My m8 has built two MK Indys with bike engines

First one was ZX9 Ninja powered, cost him 4 grand to build, used it for 6 months and then sold it on for Ł7300

Then he built the one below,Yamaha R1 engine in it
This one has cost him 6 grand to build I think, went for 17 inch alloys,4 pot front brakes etc

He has never bothered with reverse box,the cars are that light you just push them where you want or do-nut them around as he often does

His will do around the 130 mph mark top end, very fast threw the gears, clutchless sequential gearchange is spot on

My 2wd saph on greens and T34 is faster after 70 mph than a Firebladed engined MK Indy, could keep with him below 70mph,passed him in third, and just dissapeared down the road in 4th
