Mark,
do you honestly believe that there is no difference between Mountune,Harveys and Fords TUV type approved dynos and Simons non TUV type approved dyno??
what does the new fixed engine rev to now then??

Truthly no and I belive if Simon went for TUV other than dotting the T's and I's it would pass, And in no way would the figs be diff,
But there is always reasons why you should have some kind of accredition when dealing with large companies much like Dyno dynamics do with there shootout in Auss and other countries,
If you look at the correction factors on a super flow dyno this tells you how much up or down that it adjusts and in daves case the fig is about 2.5% which means it adjusted it upwards only about 10hp and 10ftlb and this was due to the weather/temp to keep it consitant as it was meant to,
The engine will rev to 8200rpm and will hold the power past 7.5k.

Mark

Also I never look at the uncorrected figs only corrected as this keeps it consitant.

Any one who thinks a particular engine managment type makes more
power than another is ignorant of the technology and principles.

If "XXXX" ecu was the best, dont you think F1 cars would have it

Dont forget RS500's were making 550 bhp + in the 1980's on ecu's with
less computing power than a L6.

Same engine dyno tested with two ecu's producing the same fuel pulse
widths and same ignition timing values will deliver the same BHP/Torque.

However, I will say Its all about the mapping/setting up and modern ecu's
are easier and quicker to map.

Trouble is the mappers still charge the same amount of money for doing
less work.

Well the standard exhaust cam is good enough for about 600brake so....

Using a standard cam don't really bother me. It's being told it has special magic cams (not to forget paying for a premium for them!) that makes me smile!

Phil i thought it was a 600bhp engine and then since then you advanced the timing and gained loads more power? Surely it must be 650 by now?

If you are talking about at one point at one temp then yes, start throwing in the whole curve and the resolution becomes a big issue, surely you know that more than most or you wouldnt have made the S8 so much better in that respect than the L8?

F1 cars use every bit of a electronic processing power they are allowed, economy is VERY important to them so they individually monitor EGT's on different cylidners and trim accordingly etc and do all the stuff T6 can and L8 cant, as well as a host of other things.

True, and not great perofrmance through the rev/MAP range compared to how they could have been on T6 etc

Again, only true when you look at one point, take things like the transient fuelling and the number of points and how temp correction or pressure correction is handled etc and you will find that the sort of curve you can get with a T6 or SM4 you couldnt get near on a 1980s L6 etc

Mappers can only go as far in terms of resolution and other functions as the ecu allows in the first place

chip-3door look out for such things as individual injector trimming on L8 in the future just because the technology is old, doesn't mean it's redundant and not getting any useful development there's plenty of processing power in there yet

as regards fuelling, you know that resolution becomes less important when you can implement closed loop strategies to take care of the low load stuff maybe even more in the future of L8 with WB input

doesn't help with the ignition though not until automatic and sophisticated electronic knock sensing (using pressure, ionisation or whatever) becomes more widely used

Dann,
On a T4 equipped car, a standard (BD8) exhaust cam will help spool up at the expense of power beyond 7000rpm. It is a common practive to use a lairy inlet amd mild exhaust cam in this kind of application .

Mark,
Would be nice to see Simon's dyno TUV accredited, then at least we would KNOW for sure that everything will be spot on and DIRECTLY comparible. Unchecked though, the best analogy I can think of, is that it's a bit like believing a factory speedo to be accurate....

Yum,
Can't wait for your car to be finished, as I think Mark (as usual ), has done you proud . I hope you achieve everything you want with it . My engine should be ready by end of November - doubt I'll be posting the dyno graph up after this though .

My engine is a 600bhp one not running that much yet as i have to boost it to 2.5bar..currently on 1.7bar..i thought it was fast it was around 300bhp then i added many degrees advance via taking bridge out and must be over 500bhp now I may even cap it here..well certainly until i regain control of it

So yes i can say its a 600bhp engine as it would make it at stupid boost..remember its a MAD/NMS/REYLAND collaberation

Hope that clears that up

Might not FEEL much faster in gear, but will hang onto each gear for longer and be quicker in reality.

If you both had similar torque, but he is in a gear lower at a given speed, he is going to leave you standing.

with correct use of gears its BHP and NOT torque that determines the acceleration of a car.

Crikey - seems a bit high for a T66

We'd normally say about 550bhp out of a T66 - fair play if it's genuine tho...
