Default Focus RS closed loop control ????

Does the Focus RS run a closed loop control as std?

There is a Lambda sensor just after the turbo. Is it used for closed loop or fuel economy

Cheers

closed loop is for the warm up phase and i would have thought all modern cars run it. in closed loop it will disregard signals from the lambda sensor and use the preset map in the ecu to control fuelling. once it reaches a preset temperature will switch to open loop and read the signals and adjust the fuelling to suit.

it'll improve power and economy.

Ahh right, you can feel the switch over from cold map running to warm map running as you drive it from cold. Mt ST170 used to be really bad as it switched for about 8-10 secs it would produce a gentle stutter/pulse. The FRS just switches and and just feel it.

So does the ECU over ride the lambda control if you go full throttle and switch to a programed map for full power running ?

i'll give you that one lol, not much sleep last nite but you know what i mean. was always gettin that wrong way round at college when i did pay attention

even on full throttle iirc it'll take a reading from the lambda. it'll switch off any egr systems that may be installed to release full power though.

I don't know anything about focuses
they're different to a cossie then
'cos cossie only uses closed loop on light throttle and below about 4000 rpm (and when hot of course)
else a cossie reverts to the map values
but this post ain't about cossies....

i'm not sure tbh mate, i've been trained on mercs so tryin to think how they work even with them they change all the time with different systems.
it might even be that after a certain threshold they switch to the preset map values but sure i remember them sayin something about still taking a readin to try and retain some economy

thats the reson i asked, because i understand a Cossie uses closed loop and then reverts to map over certain % of throttle. I wondered if the Focus RS does something simlar

Cheers for info so far, any more info

Focus works the same as a YB, which works the same as most other management systems.

To clarify, YES its closed loop as standard and YES they are awfull on fuel as standard too.

Cannot really be improved, its simply a very inefficient engine sadly.
