Well my focus rs runs no different wether its BP,Shell or Sainsburys super unleaded. I use Sainsburys because its 93.9p per litre of super versus 104.9p a litre of BP Super.

its 99 ron instead of 98 my advance map on my ignition runs on the limit on optimax thats why i get very good power 256 bhp can get a extra +2 degrees with v power without pinking

remember even tho the pumps have been rebadged they will still have optimax in there untill they run out i know mine was the v power stuff as i know & use that petrol staition alot

It would probably be better on a car specifically mapped to use it, but if I just use the petrol from any of the stations I notice no difference at all. So I just go for the cheapest.

It is indeed, just SHell used to round the Octane rating down to 98 whereas now they round it up to 99 (its about 98.5), all marketing matey!

Optimax was 98.6 wernt it?..So as above they could get more customers by rounding the figure to 99...but sales ploy,as in why they not round it off at 99 to start with?

Like the goverment, companys do realise, you know, that the majority are gullible!

Im not joking matey, its just rebranding execise. We had the internal emails months ago telling us it was going to happen.

I agree that rounding up to 99 in the first place would have made more marketing sense and I honestly dont know why they didnt. Maybe it had to do with trading standars or tax or something, I dont know the financial reasons just the fuel that goes out of our site to the garages is just the same stuff.

...as said by starting off at 98...they knew they could rebadge for more publicity later.

Sorry mate, misread your original post. You have a good point there though, seems strange to call it Optimax for such a short time!

I shall soon have some sort of evidence of wether or not it is any better. I currently have 2 degress of ingition retard in my saff on the L6. I am going to run the tank right down and fill up with V-Power. Then off to Marks to put on the det cans, add the ignition back in and see if there is any det. If anyone is interested then i will let you know how i get on

All I noticed was my petrol in the red a lot sooner. fuck that. it runs the same on tesco 95 as it does on tesco 99, sainsbury's 95, BP 95 and 97, shell 95. Waste of money IMO unless you have a 'performance' car which has been set up to run it.

that would be good to know, although why do you have 2 degrees retarded at the mo?

Because above 2 bar of boost you run the same ingnition curve as you would at 2 bar, as the map sensor cant see anymore (3 bar map). We had a slight crackle of det at 34 psi in 5th gear on the det cans so we took 2 degrees out to be safe. that was on optimax. Mark reckoned with a decent octane booster we may be able to add the 2 degrees back in. So we will see with the v-power. Of course retarding the igniton using the octane switch adjustment on a cossie, means you have 2 degrees retard throughout the rev range not just at hight boost

Its funny, as ive seen a LOT of people with some properly quick motors, all saying their car feels better than ever when using it.

But its deffo just optimax?

Strange, as the people saying it are not the kind of people who are usually kidded, and all people whos tried others and not said they felt owt really.
