Evo's are hurrendous on fuel. I used to get between 90-120 miles to a tank(Ł30).

Worst ever was 64 on a back road mission...

Whats the best to go for... evo one or non evo???
Thats quite thirsty!!

I havent had any experiance of the evo but i dont think there is too much diference apart from the evo has 6 gears and has a few more bhp. EIL132 is the best man to ask as he has both!! The non evo is cheap as, i only paid Ł4600 for mine last year.

I did ask him if there was much diference in the two, iirc, he said there wasnt much, but the evo had a bit more top end.

What about mileage wise? Should you avoid high mile ones? ie 100k

My non evo has 144,000 on the clock, full bmw history. Even when cold there are no rattles or knocks. Starts first flick of the key. I have had no problems after a year of ownership....................touch wood................

I really rated my M3 non evo but my 3dr cossie is far more entertaining to drive @ stage 3. After nearly 4 yrs with the cossie i still might go back to another M3 as they are so useable, hardly ever use the cossie as its so noisey & harsh.

M3 is the better car for everyday use as it's marginally better on fuel and has less to go wrong with it. M3 Evo is faster but not hugely, when we raced them side by side the Evo was about 2 car lengths in front at about 110mph, over that and the Evo came into it's own. The Evo has more toys and IMO is the best E36, but more costly to own. Price plays the biggest part, getting a decent Evo that's as it should be will be 9k+ unless your v lucky, M3s are nearer 7k. Mileage wise there's one kicking around with 168k and still going strong. As an everday car I'd deffo pick the M3, although I used the Evo more often than not

Lol, I've been asked that so many times. I looked at 12 Evos over 3 months before finding the one I have, it's really just a case of going out and seeing as many as you can to discover what's good and bad. Test drive everything! The M3 took about a month as there was a lot more of them for sale. Best advice is if you dont feel 100% about the car, walk away until you find the right one and dont buy the first one you see

Mixed use, I'm getting 30 ish, long trip, high 30's, a bit of ragging early 20's, not bad for the power you're getting.
