How different a drive? E36 TDS and BMW engined Omega CDX?
I'm going to be flogging the MR2 soon and getting an E36 325TDS as I'm spending a fortune on fuel
But then I had a look at the Omegas with the BMW engine and found that I could get a much newer car for same money. My only concerns are on whether the Omega would be a shit drive compared to the BMW.
Anybody any experiences?
Right now I'm still thinking the Beemer would be best as I really liked my petrol one.

Legend
All depends on preference!
I've always found the bmw's feel nicer on the road, more solid and all the other bits inside are a bit better made.
Try one of each
I'd personally go for the beemer

Aye, well whichever I get is going for a nice trip down to Mr Stu for some treatment. I loved my old Beemer. Won't drive exactly same but I imagine the handling and quality etc will be spot on.

The Omega handles VERY well for its size.
the engine is sat back in the bulk head and this makes a difference!
if you can, get a manual version as the Auto is a bit pants, but the BMW TD fuel pumps can fail. one is cheap to fix, the other isnt
good car otherwise, not the fastest in the world, but quiet and you dont get so much of the diesel clatter thanks to BMW making the engine sound a bit petrolish.
Oh, also, the 325TDS has an intercooler, the Omega doesnt.

I presume the Omega is the 325td engine then rather than the tds?

Oddly, the Omega gets better fuel economy than the BMW according to all the stats!
Its often the electrics that fail in the pumps - had 2 fail.
Also the lift pump can go (its near the tank) causing warm starting issues and also causing starting issues when the fuel level is below 15 or so litres.

I will most likely get the beemer. Thought the Omega was the TDS engine not the TD.

My old Omega 2.5 TD Select estate had an intercooler below the drivers headlight

It's all relative of course...
Each end of the scale
BMW are giving away 730 dse's at the moment 500 a month will see you in one.
or
Get a Peugeot 405 built like brick *hit houses change the oil and make sure it's always got anti freeze in it and it'll last forever.
+
Take it to Jeremy Fearne to wave his magic wand over it and it'll beat standard RS turbo's and still do 40 MPG.
