to get more capacity out of the same bore, obviously

more capacity = more torque

theres no replacement for displacement.

A longer stroke is effectivly a longer lever to turn your crank so should improve torque like Nick says

BHP =P.L.A.N

p= cylinder pressure
L=legth of stroke
A = area of piston crown
N= number of fireing strokes

Simple terms

Short stroke = quicker revvin snappier throttle responce

Long stroke = More torque

because they are high compression engines

its simply because the engines are made to produce massive air flows at little revs

Boost gives FAR more torque than a bit more stroke mate

Why you think Cossies have WAY more torque than almost all other comparable engines for the BHP

Low compression and high boost isnt just for fun

And YB have WAY shorter stroke than many comparable engines (SR20 etc).

TBH I dont think stroke itself from bore or stroke dont seem to make much odds barring longer stroke often fucks the save revs up as it increases piston speed...

As above :

Shorter/standard stroke engine proves usually to be a better quicker revving engine due to the speeds of the moving pistons being less of something that has been stroked so helping it travel a lesser distance so being able to turn over more quickly

EG a sorted ford V8 @ 289 cu in (4.7lts) standard stroke with modified/uprated internals will rev to 9500rpm quiet easily at 500bhp

where as

a stroker ford v8 @ 347 cu in (5.7lts) with a custom crank, rods etc will only rev to about 6500 rpm comfortably but produce the same horsepower but an extra 50-75 lb-ft of torque
