MKIII XR2i CVH & MkII XR2 CVH Head/Engine Compatibilty??
Hi All
Please can someone help? I have an urgent need to get my MKII XR2 Fiesta racer going again after an engine failure!
Will a MKIII XR2i CVH engine/head be ok to use with my MK11 Fiesta XR2 standard pre lean burn Weber (DTF?) carb and Ford ECU? I must retain the carb because the regulations do not allow the use of fuel injection on my car.
My blown up XR2 engine was a pre 1986 lean burn one with the true hemispherical head chambers. Can I just swap the engines over and retain my carb or are the compression ratio's or the fixing of the relevant inlet manifold different? Does it make any difference to what I plan if the XR2i engine was originally mechanically or elctronically fuel injected?
Does anyone know?
Thanks
Bob

MKIII XR2i CVH & MkII XR2 CVH Head/Engine Compatibilty??
Thanks for that Rick.
Do you or does anyone else know if the piston tops and compression ratio will allow me to use the MKII carb instaed of the injection?
Thanks
Bob

compression ratio is identical on all 1.6 engines expect the turbo at 9.5:1 (8.3:1)
The carb will go straight on. The head of an xr2i, late xr3i and fiesta turbo has cut outs in the inlet ports for the injectors. The inlet manifild for the carb doesn't, so just blanks these off.

efi's are 9.75:1 c/r by memory.
What do you want to do?
2i engine on carb?
if so then yes it will work.
2i bottom end with lean burn head and carb?
Yes as long as pistons dont go past 0.5mm above block on TDC. And this will give you a higher C/R which is good for a N/A car.
(i dont know what xr2i pistons look like)
Xr2 l/b bottom end with 2i head, and carb?
Yes but the compression ratio will be lower.

MKIII XR2i CVH & MkII XR2 CVH Head/Engine Compatibilty??
Thanks for the advice Rick and Fiesta Cossie.
I want to put the XR2 carb and ecu etc onto the XR2i engine (complete bottom end and head), so I assume its ok to go ahead unless anyone else says differently?
Thanks
Bob

And the car went like fook when it was all fitted

As said, i'm not to sure if the xr2 inlet and gasket will cover the injector cut outs.
Might need to make a 1 off gasket out of thin gauge ally or copper, and put abit of good sealant on it around the injector cut outs.
if not and if the L/B head can fit (matters on piston design), this will give you a better C/r and a head designed for carbs.
