Default Audi TT's.....

The missus has just sold her MR2 and is on the lookout for a TT. She's being a bit of a fussy moo with the spec she wants but is happy to go around looking at a few other ones to get an idea on condition etc...

What should we be looking for? Where are their faults etc?? She's after a 225 quattro (good girl!) and has up to about 13k to spend.... I've looked on the TT Forum but there isnt an awful lot on there.

Cheers
Chris

I dont think there are any faults as such, the dash pods can go and are over £1000 to get sorted so make sure its had 1 under warenty or been recalled.

Other than that i think there pretty good cars really

They're not the fastest thing on four wheels but they do look very good.

Only fault i've come accross is visibility, or the lack of!

Yup the tt isn't a bad car as a whole,a shy on power as standard but thats easy rectified. The coilpacks aint clever at all, equally crap are the air flow meters(air mass ) and if you every feel its down on power and theres a sound like the pot noodle horn,it'll be the turbo pipe has come off, normally the one direct onto the turbo. It'll look like its still on as its short pipe and it doesnt blow right off, but you'll probaly notice the jubilee clip a bit sqew wiff.

I did have one a couple of years back (on a 52 plate) and in the 5 months i had it had no problems whatsoever.

Like anycar I suppose they are gonna have problems but things like the above arent things i can really check when buying it!!!!

Performance isnt really an issue as it doesnt bother her one bit! It was things like bodywork/rust, major engine components which i was thinking about.

Adam - i presume that these problems happened across the VAG range (ie - Cupra R etc) as they all shared the same engine didnt they??

To be honest I wouldnt know, All I know was mum was gutted as it was a kind of dream sports car for her and it gave her nothing but trouble.

The worst/last thing that happend was when the rear strut snapped! Caused about £1000 of damage as it happend at 80mph on the M1, All audi said was... That was supposed to be recalled to have new rear struts and the rear spoiler fitted.... Then they checked their records to see...It had been recalled and the spoiler was fitted... but not the struts!

So they took Blame and fixed it (In the beginning they tried to say that the car had been driven hard and it was not their fault!!! )

In the end she got a refund from Audi for the car after she had it for 11 months!
