Default Amal valve wire shorted out - car wont start??? UPDATE

My mate just called me who has a 2wd saff and said one of his amal valve wires has shorted on his header tank and now the car won't start?
He reckons he still has a spark but no fuel.
Anyone tell me what damage has likely to have been done? ECU???
Cheers Spadge...

Yeah, probably the ECU gone pop.. at the minimum it'd blow the transistor that controls the amal valve.. but it appears to have done a bit more damage unfortunately! Probably a fried track..

i bet the supply for the amal valve (which is taken from the fuel pump relay/fuse) just sorted to earth! no ecu damage

The control wire is an earth switch anyway so how the fuck could it blow the ecu...?

He has checked all the fuses in the engine loom which is where i think the fuel pump one is and they are all ok.
Has also run a live to the pump and the car starts
He is still fiddling so any more suggestions

because if the transitor was switched on in the ecu,,, you have a short from live to earth running through the ecu! this can burn tracks! hopefully the fuse just blown

But Spadgeroo said they shorted on the header tank, not to each other.....

Be damn unlucky if the tranny popped before the short on the header tank took the fuse out...

Hm no, your man here has a point.. One wire is the live you were referring to, the other wire is just a switched earth.. touching earth won't affect anything.. I've switched opinions now to Gareths

This happened to my pals saph cossi, puff of smoke from the glove box and it popped the ecu. There was a huge hole in the circuit board where it had burnt through. Will try and dig a pic out of it.

Notice i was confident. Fixed many of these over the years.

Glad he is running again, shame you had to go out and do what you had already told him to do though. lol
