Anyone use an Escos as a daily car?
Hello
Been registered with the site for ages but never really post. So thought I'd ask for your views at the same time as saying hello.
I currently drive a Leon Cupra R but I have always had the urge to own an Escos. With summer here and the shows the more i see the more I want. The thing is I use the car to travel to and from work (45m round trip) and over the M62 every other weekend. I know the practical thing would be keep the Leon but maybe its about time I made the boyhood dream a reality. Would I just be ruining the Escos racking up the miles? Does anyone else use theirs as a daily car?
I live in Harrogate, work in York anyone near want to take me for a spin in theirs to show me what thier like
Cheers
Ben

I have used a sapph cossie 4x4 stg 1 as a daily driver for over 7 years without any problems.
Not an escos, but I can't see the two being that different tbh.
As long as you keep the engine mods sensible and look after it, there's not reason why you couldn't.

I use my Escort Cossie as an every day driver. I cover around 110 miles to and from work. I live in West Sussex, and drive to Slough everyday. The car is modified running light blues, ported head, upgrade brakes etc. etc. etc. Car turns me around 23 mpg. The best thing I like about it is that although I’m in traffic a lot of the time, there are opportunities to enjoy the car through roundabouts, and corners. (You don’t have to drive mental to enjoy your car.) Best of all, I have to do about 15 miles of that on back country B roads, and this is where the Escort 4 wheel drive really shines. I enjoy winter driving the most, as you don’t get the tractors/horses etc. out on the country lanes. Plus you can see anyone coming in the other direction, as their lights are on, therefore giving advanced warning.
But saying all that, mechanics is my hobby, so I look after the car myself. Therefore all aspects of mechanics are undertaken by me, even down to the rebuilding of my engine. It could become expensive if you have to have someone else maintain a high mileage driver. As the car is old, I have to replace bits and bobs all the time. EG CV boots, and the fast road brake pads get changed about every 8 months, at £159 a set.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I think a cheap daily runner would be a good solution eventually but as I spend alot of time sat in traffic to and from work I want to enjoy it and especially in the summer I think I'd be taking the Cossie to work. Winter with all the crap on the road would be a different story. I miss the RS scene (have had 2 S2's before) and the looks and appreciation you get for a clean example.
I wouldnt be doing any major engine mods (he says that now) as it wouldnt really get used in anger. The B roads to and from work are pretty straight and not exactly quiet. Just a nice drivable n reliable (well as much as poss)car is what I would be looking for.
Cheers

Cheers AJC. Do you still have that Series 1 or did I read you had sold it. Fantastic motor.
I think the runabout looks like the way forward and well it looks like the search for an escos might be starting soon then. I see so many tidy examples on here and at the shows n just wondered how many are used daily. I guess when well kept they are as good as any other car.
Cheers

to be honest mate, i wouldnt have one as a everyday runner, not due to reliabilty, but due to the sad fact that they get nicked. imagine if u had to go somewhere and leave it in a dodgy car park. ot good, especially so if u got a light coloured one like red or white which would still gleam out bigtime at night. i'd personally get a shit box run about aswell as havin a cossie
