I use my Escort Cossie as an every day driver. I cover around 110 miles to and from work. I live in West Sussex, and drive to Slough everyday. The car is modified running light blues, ported head, upgrade brakes etc. etc. etc. Car turns me around 23 mpg. The best thing I like about it is that although I’m in traffic a lot of the time, there are opportunities to enjoy the car through roundabouts, and corners. (You don’t have to drive mental to enjoy your car.) Best of all, I have to do about 15 miles of that on back country B roads, and this is where the Escort 4 wheel drive really shines. I enjoy winter driving the most, as you don’t get the tractors/horses etc. out on the country lanes. Plus you can see anyone coming in the other direction, as their lights are on, therefore giving advanced warning.

But saying all that, mechanics is my hobby, so I look after the car myself. Therefore all aspects of mechanics are undertaken by me, even down to the rebuilding of my engine. It could become expensive if you have to have someone else maintain a high mileage driver. As the car is old, I have to replace bits and bobs all the time. EG CV boots, and the fast road brake pads get changed about every 8 months, at £159 a set.
