Default ST150 and Warranty... your thoughts??

Right in a nutshell, a mate of mine has an ST150 it's been serviced at ford from day one, any probs, it's been straight back to ford...

A couple of weeks ago it developed a top end rattle... to the point where a mate of his who is a mechanic made him pull up on a motorway cuz he thought that it must have dumpped it's oil, when they checked it was at the full mark.

So yesterday he took it back to ford, they took it out for a 'test drive' and basically came back and told him it sounded like it was the little end that had gone, they said they would strip it under warranty, but if it was something not covered he would be looking at a £2k+ bill, now the car has literally in the last day or so just passed 8k.

Surely for an 8k engine, whatever is wrong with it, it should be covered?

Unless they can prove your mate over revved the car like 3rd to 1st I can't see how it cannot be covered under warranty

If it was 5 years old with 90,000 on the clock I can see "wear and tear" but less than a year and 8k utter twats

Tell him to kick up a serious fuss!! I hope he's got a courtesy car as well?

Without a doubt!! ^ ^

If your mate wanted grief, engine failure and the expense of fixing a car he'd have bought an rs turbo, not a brand new ST 150!!!

SHOCKING!

Mines been back in the last year for a slight squeek under the passenger seat occasionaly and a rattle from the gearstick surround, both times courtesy car for the day, used there fuel to get to work and back 40 mile trip, and come back to ass kissing and a valeted car.

As posted above service manager needs rather a lot of shouting out

I'm sure i've read somewhere that the Ford garage can download "action replays" of the engines revs & driver inputs from the ECU.

I'm sure i've heard of instances where garages have refused engine warranty work due to the telemetry they've downloaded from the ECU showing mis-(or accidental) treatment such as fluffed gear changes as has been mentioned above resulting in over-revving.

If they can then it may be wise for your mate to prepare for the worst if he has done something that could have damaged the engine.

Hope I dreamed it though

All warranty details are in the owners handbooks supplied with the car.

It will only record an instance it see's a dtc with the ford wds diagnosis

eqpt.

You should be well covered under warranty tho, ain't even missed a

service yet!

Personaly I'd have an independant engineer verify that there is a knock and said engineers thoughts on the cause. Take some video footage showing the knock/noise etc.

If the dealer in question isnt playing ball then go elsewhere, I'd have thought there's plenty of Ford dealarships around about you/your m8?

If they then strip the engine and cant find anything you then have evidence that there was indeed a problem/knock/noise.

A pity that you have to go to the above measures but may well save you/your m8 any agro "if they cant find a problem".

Hope everything go's well.

let them strip it, as under a year old, there will be very little not covered. Like others have said the instances for not being covered under warranty are in your manual, ie driver abuse, wear & tear, modifications, etc.

If they strip it down and inform you there will be a bill to pay, don't authorise the repair and get it touch with customer services. I am quite sure it wouldn't come to that.
