Now I'm not really a cat lover but...
On the way to the Kent meet last night, just got to Brands and the missus rings.. in floods of tears. Her Cat 'Ollie' of ten years had just been run over. Poor little mite... So straight back home to try and console her.
Little blighter looked like he was just asleep.. no visable damage. How do you console someone in a situation like this? I know to many its 'just a cat' But he really was her baby. Poor doris is so so upset!
I've only lived with Ollie around for 6-7 months but got quite attached myself.
We took him to the local emergency vets where he is to be cremated and then buried in the back garden
RIP Ollie

Gutted for her m8, I'm a cat lover. R.I.P Ollie m8.
P.S. Your PC is halfway done, XP's reinstalled and running fine. I shall install all the drivers for sound, video etc, etc, and put back all your documents and e-mails on it tonight. I can put on my "vintage" that's on my PC straight onto yours if you want
Let me know chap
I'm just about to rip Damo's to bit's

My little cat Milly, got knocked down and killed, she didn't have a mark on her either. I think a lot to do with it is down to shock.
It's hard to console anyone in this situ, just wait for time to heal.

Dave,
My wife is a big cat lover, I know how upset she was, we have had 2 cats die under cars, unfortunately I was driving one of them, backing down the drive I never saw Hubert lurking under my back wheel....
I was faced with an awful decision,
Do I tell her someone else ran him over on the road?
Do I bury him and spend the following few days pretending to look for him?
Do I go in and face the music?
I did the honourable thing and told her i'd run him over....
Did not go down well....took her 6 months to forgive me, but it was a pure accident, not a lover of cats myself but you do get attached.

Aww soz Dave. I'm more of a dog person myself but when my beloved Doob died I was in quite a state. Can still bawl about him now (five years on lol). Nothing you can do but hang in innit. Not a pet, more of part of the fam-lee (as they would say in Easties)

Poor little fella..................if I lost my little lad I'd be in bits and I've no qualms about admitting that.
RIP Little man..............
Dave - give her time mate, she needs to sort her head out first but then she'll want another one bet ya.

We have lost 2 cats now within around a year of each other. I have to say that I am grateful that I had help and they they weren't injured too badly, just killed outright.
The first one was killed by a chav dickhead that had been roaring up and down my road all day. Luckily, there was a helpful guy around who helped me sort it all out, but I still had to hose the road down. Believe me, that fooking hurts.
The second one got knocked down and luckily someone my Mum knew moved him off the road and phoned us. I had to carry him home. That was awful too, he was so heavy, much heavier than when I normally picked him up and it had clearly only just happened. His eyes were still glistening and I really didn't know if he was still alive.
We are SO SO attached to our cats and I am not too bold to admit that losing mine absolutely destroyed me. For days I didn't know how I would get over it. But with time it does get easier, it really does. I still think about it alot though. It's been over a year now since we lost the second one and the cat that we still have is so lonely, but we are only now considering getting another pair of kittens. He has needed the company and thats the main reason we are doing it.
I think you should not talk about getting a Kitten yet, that might come across as a little insensitive, but after a couple of weeks, mention it and see how she takes it.
I still have an ongoing burden about the second cat that we lost as we buried him in the garden, but its right where we need to carry out some work. There is NO way I could dig there and I don't really know what to do, but it is quite important.

I lost my cat Poppy of 17 years, whilst i was at the PE rolling road day. She hadn't been well 2 days before, but was ok when i left. She was put to sleep and the decision to be there was out of my hands-which i am grateful for. She was never considered just a cat and was always part of my family
RIP Ollie

Sorry to hear this,
But having the cat buried in the back garden may not be a wise choice IMO...everytime she walks past the spot where the ashes are laid it will just remind her
My Grandad did the same thing with his cats and he found it very tough purely for the reason above

Really sorry to hear this. I know what it's like to lose an animal, it's really really tough. I lost my horse a while ago and i keep his ashes in my house. There is no way i could put him in the garden, i would just hate to think of him out there if that makes any sense . Everybody does things their own way in their own time
Time is a great healer, it takes away the intensity of the pain, but it never takes away the pain completely just makes it more bearable.
R.I.P Ollie xx

Me and the missus have had a cat for over a year now called Barry (Her bloody choice, i wanted to call him Gunner!) but in Feb he nearly died due to an illness......... We were both in pieces, hardest thing for me was being strong for her as she just fell to bits (any quiet moment i had was spent sobbing!).
I dread to think about the day he dies to be honest Litte ginger shite means that much to us!
But if it helps Dave, the Brother in law is selling kittens as we speak! They're Bengals mate and they are the nuts!!!! Housey cats though! Fookin mental i tell ya

Sorry to hear that Dave.
My dog died just over a year ago, had been with me 14 years, since I was around 11, fucking awful
One thing that DID make me feel a bit better was what my old man did, I phoned him to tell him and that I didnt know what to do (He could tell I was in a right state) so he told me to bring him round to his ASAP, by the time I got there in about 15 minutes or so, my old man who is getting on a bit now, had dug the BIGGEST whole right in the middle of the garden, turf up the lot, all this with an arthritic shoulder and in late november with snow on the ground was gob smacked, in fact that gesture alone started me off bawling again
Big up to family and friends in these situations

Sorry to hear that as it's never nice to loose a pet. You're probably better off letting your gf mention a new cat herself as everyone is different. I had to have one the very next week when our lil one died, but some people need time to mourn. Let her decide.
Oh and for those interested, the reason cats don't usually show any sign of having been run over, is because their body is extremely flexible. They will have internal injuries but their bones might not be damaged in any way...

Bad news mate, Personally as you know I am a cat lover .. When I lost my last one (of the three I have had) I was gutted... within 3 weeks Susanna had been to the rescue home and bought home a tiny tiny kitten, just turned up on the doorstep with it... Seemed cruel to send it back .... I said it wouldnt be the same, but 3 years on she is the best cat I have ever had....

Sorry to here the news Dave, dear dorris must be gutted.
My parents have always had cats and when I was about 8 years old they had a pair of farm kittens (brother and sister) the male one was very friendly and when he heard my mothers BMW 3 series coming he would run out to the drive to meet her..... well when I was about 17 the can ran out to meet my mother and she ran over him on the drive, the poor thing managed to crawl half way along the lawn with its back broken. I had only just passed my driving test and my and my younger brother drove quickly down to the vets with him holding the cat on a tray, by the time we got there he was dead. My mother being a real cat lover often still gets upset about it......
Fucking hell thinking about it that was almost 10 years ago now - time flys!

Remember to tread carefully though, it might be the wrong move at this stage. You need to help her to grieve for the one that she has lost first.

yeah my current cat came from cat protection league... they are fine as long as you dont want a full breed
to sound her out you could take her on a "surprise" visit to one of these places, I'm sure she will fall in love with one immediately

Bad news Dave
Its amazing how you can become so attached so quickly, i love cats far more than i do dogs
Give it a week or two i would mate, let the initial shock go and then maybe ask her about another kitten.
