Default XR3i PROBLEMS - Please help

Ok, I am quite annoyed to say the least.

I bought an MFi XR3i last week that has been dry stored for 2 years. Tootled about in it for a while then got it on the rollers for a tune up. Needed new plugs and came out a little noisey. This turned out to be the water pump and 4 tappets collapsing at once.

OK, fixed that.

Then, next day it lost all oil pressure and started to tap its cock off. WTF i thought.

So, I towed it to the garage and left it with them to change the oil pump. They havent done it yet but have had it running to move it about etc etc and say its been running sweet since then

Now I'm confused. Could it be shit oil clogging the pump? Could the pump be failing intermittently or do they just go? What else could be causing this?

I am at a loss, but seriously fucked off at buying a car I cant drive.

Please help me.

I think you have a filter thing on the end of the oil pickup - this could be full of crap - I had a similar thing with a CVH I had a while ago, would go nice and quiet after a rest up, as the crap fell out I guess...

yes mate the oil pick up pipe is more than liekly blocked on my old cab engine someone had 'gasket sealed' the sump and a LOAD of blue gasket stuff had got into the pickup pipe.. that engine died shortly after..
IMO the best thing would be to change the oil pump.. its a bit of a ball ache and a garage will prob charge you quite a bit.. but its one of the most vital things on the engine!.
I could prob change one in about an hour for you if you wanted.
You could just clean the pickup pipe but the thing is there will be all sorts of shit floating about and it will prob get blocked agian if the system isnt completely drained/cleaned

to 'have a look' (ie a propper look) at the oil pump you need to remove the cambelt, pull the engine down, take the sump off, take the oil pump off.. that will take a retard about 1 1/2 hours max make sure they dont rape you on price mate

Why you need to pull the engine down to look at the oil pump??

surely the sump just comes off if you unbolt it?

Oh, and regarding the insurance thing, go down and have a scout. if his car is there then its number 15 mate.

Give me all the details you've got and let me run it thru my "people finder"

lol because its impossible to remove the oil pump without lowering the engine.. there is only a little bit of clearance (ie about a inch ) which isnt enought to get the oil pump off the crank

Nobheads deatils (or what he wrote down anyway )
