Default Broadband download speeds.

Now I've finally got broadband (1/2 meg) why can I still only download videos linked from this site at 40-50kb/sec????

I was getting 30kb/sec on my old dial up?

I thought broadband was supposed to be so much better??

warrenpenalver There is no chance you were getting 30KB/sec from a dial-up (unless it was triple ISDN or something )

It is physically impossible to get more than 6KB/sec from a dial-up modem so if it says anything more it is just Windows lying to you.

1/2 meg broadband = 512kbits per second = 50kbytes per second = 50KB/sec dowload speed

56k modem = 56kbits per second = 5kbytes per second kb/sec download speed

As Phil said.

1/2 meg broadband wil normally max out at around 60Kb/sec download.
512kb is the slowest ADSL speed normally offered these days - most ISP's offer at least 1Mb as the "entry level speed"

30kb/sec on dialup?

I was lucky to see 3kb/sec when I was on dialup.

I now generally see around 150kb/sec average. Sometimes up to 250kb/sec but very rarely beyond that (I'm on 2 meg).

Where I'm based has only got 512kb on the local BT exchange. Cornwall must still be in the dark ages
