Its also something I use at work 100's of times a day and I'm sure our COSHH assesment doesn't say it is toxic
It maybe classified as toxic but I doubt it poses any real danger to us otherwise they wouldn't let us use it !! The toxic risk phrase will say something along the lines of toxic if digested not toxic if you come into any contact. And if it does mean toxic by contact ....I'm fucked
We used to have a lorry driver who came into our place who raced in Fiesta challenge and even though it was naughty he used to get 200l drums of acetone and methanol from a solvent recovery firm for his race cars he claimed it made a massive difference to the cars but no the downside there was a lot more heat in the engine.
We have a few 100,000 litres of it at my work

and fuck me does it go up when you get a tiny spark near it
something like a watch battery can set it alight... (flashpoint of -3 deg C I think)
I'd say its a bit more dangerous than normal gasoline, acetone instantly strips the moisture out of your skin if you're lucky to get it on there. Think its also been linked to liver cancer, nice stuff

Stings like fuck if you get it in your eye! I used to be a boat builder and as pee wee said its the best stuff for cleaning resin off your tools. Also good for removing moisture as it evaporates very quickly leaving a dry surface.

Acetone
If you read the article, you'll realise the benefits, cheap as chips. Optimax reputedly has small amounts of acetone present.
Basically, reduces the surface tension of petrol or diesel, allowing it to vaporise and be burnt more efficiently = more power (marginal) and better fuel economy per tank.
Up to you, but I'll give it a go in my 3.0 GSi Vectra.

Toxicity level is dependent on quantities, as for employers in general letting people handle stuff, well history can teach us a lot there.
Can be absorbed through the skin, so if you're handling it, rather you than me.
But hey, you all know better, do what you want with it

As you said toxicity level would be quantity related when assessed through COSHH IE 250ml would be low whereas 200 litre will be a different story
