Computer question...
Can anyone help me out...
In outlook, where does the location for personal folders get stored.. I kow you can look in the services menu, but where does it store that info?
I'm asking because we got data restored from a faulty drive, but cannot find the PST on the recovery.
I have tried putting the profile onto the new system and pointing the registry to use that but this wouldn't work.
Any ideas where I can get the location information?

In XP or Win2k you should have the files in
C:\Documents and Settings\PC USER NAME\Local Settings\Application Data
C:\Documents and Settings\PC USER NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
cant remember which but summit like that, you will need to go to folder options and show hidden files to see the folders tho

could be they are archived to a specified location such as a folder somewhere she has/had on her drive or in her my documents, do a search like Craig says,
however is your pc set up to log on different users? as it could be that she needs to log on as herself or you may need admin rights etc.
Open up outlook and look at the properties for the archived or personal folders and it should tell you the correct path.

I cannot open outlook on the profile that has been restored and she didn't have a roaming profile.
So I can't go through it that way.
I need to be able to manually find where the PST was. I can't find it in any of the servers she uses or on the recovered drive.
There must be a file in the profile that tells out you where these are stored

when outlook doenst locate your pst it creates one in the documents and settings folders..
close outlook..
delete that pst..
restart outlook ..
it will say it cant find it.. and you can browse to the one you just recovered

there isnt anywere andy
you have to go into services (outlook 2000)
or data files (outlook XP and 2003)
and manually point it to look for a pst file simple as that no info telling it were to look unless you can disect MS's code
if uve done a search for *.pst and found nout then its likely to be gone

file rights will not matter here
to recover files from a dead hard disk a DOS level tool will have had to be used
if this is the case the permissions and also the filenames will have been changed due to DOS having shorter filename system.
if you know any part of the filename id try searching for it
if you jsut put the hard disk in another pc and got files off within windows it coudl be a permissions issue
