Default making torque from a N/A engine....

How do you do it?

Without crazy mods, and no turbos or superchargers

Is there anything that can be done

You can tend towards about 100lbft per litre, but other than forced induction or nitrous, forget it past that basically.

without capacity, u can use large overlap cams for scavenging, to increase the VE of the engine. They don't feel paticularly torquey though, as it will be fairly high up in the rpm range I've seen 1600's with 160lb, which is pretty impressive!

Make it a 1740cc, instant gain of almost 10% in torque lower down.

Or better still a 2.0 zetec bottom end if you can sort the CR out

Would that be done by boring it out? Fancied one of these engines in my mk4.

Only way to make a really free flowing design really.

zvh's are brilliant in normally aspitated form, a refreshing change to the usual turd in turbo'd form.

if its for a cvh mate the best bet is a decent exhuast manifold and system, overbored bottom end, big skim on the head with very mild porting. fueling wise a DMTR twin choke webber is best bet as 40s only give serious gains with big headwork - which will ruine the torque. port matched and slightly ported inlet, cam wise i had a piper 285 in mine and it was spot on.

thats the 2nd spec 2nd i had in my xr2 and it pulled like slag from whatever revs you opened the throttle! i later went for a stg3 head with loads of porting/reshaping and +1mm valves. felt soooo shit in comparison until you got over 4k, it made up for it all then though

surely ZVH is pointless if keeping N/A? as you may aswell just go full zetec?

i mean the point of ZVH is to get the extra capacity but keep the bits that fit from the turbo motor so you dont need to get custom bits made, surely?

zvh is suposed to be good for torque if you dont go mental with the head,

my zetecs brilliant though, ill be keeping it fairly tame where the headwork and cams are concerned to try and keep the torque and driveability. its like the spec cvh i had i mentioned above, but twice as good!
