Flat spots
Had the same problem when running twin choke weber carb, usually if it bogs down when you hit the accelerator the accelerator pump diaphragm has a hole in it or is split. not sure what carb yours is running but on the old weber the diaphragm was on the side of the carb behind 4 small screws (looks square from the outside.)

Yes, I have a 32/36 DGAV progressive Weber Carburettor with water choke.
Also yesterday tried to figure why the car dies after running for a few minutes
Would the diaphragm be part of the problem as well?
I'm getting tired of running the sapph with the carburettor and considering changing the fueling system to to a ohc EFI injection manifold system. Can you perhaps share some light on this?

no cannot share much light on the efi conversion except that if you go down that path you would want another sierra running the full set up so you get a complete set of all the parts needed to make it work, ecu sensors AFM wiring diagram etc,
the 32/36 DGAV is an exceptionally good carb and i think the best carb for this motor and when running correctly should perform and be very close to the same efficency as EFi. I work in a car accessories shop in nz and am still able to buy a complete gasket/seal/diaghram kit for the carb to refresh it and make sure all is sealed where it should be. you also should easily be able to buy a carb kit for that model. you can either rekit the carb yourself or should be an easy job for any mechanic.. the accelerator dia is responsible for squirting extra fuel in the carb when the throttle is applied quickly so is not your engine dieing problem. but this could still be the carb leaking in air from a damaged/missing gasket.

Carburettor Issues?
Over the weekend opened the carb up with one of my collegues as he is a diesel mach. We checket everything gave all the main jets a clean out and also set the adjusments to suite the ignition timing. It seems a bit better now as well. But waht concerns me is that w swapped the venutury port slides(not sure the coorect term for it) arong and still it drives much smoother now. those slides have a 3.5 & 5.5 mark on it.
Will this increase my fuel consumtion?
Also he suggested that i reconnect my fuel return as it might cause too much preassure build up? Is this true?
I cannot find a ford fuel preassure regulator and was wondering if i could use a from a vw golf MK1. Surely they all work the same. Which is the best way of connecting this up. at the moment my incoming fuel comes into a inline filter and straight into the carburettor. (no exit pipe)
Any suggestions on this?

try to check vacuum hoses between carb, distributor, brake servo, air filter box for any leak!
Try to clean your engine with a carb cleaner spray while engine running and a spray in carb playing with your throttle.
Check your fuel filter flow.
have you clean or replace your carb's air filter recently? if not, check it.

Today it did it again the car ran jekingly. I'm getting so flippen frustrated with this. Going to take the carb off and send it in for reconditioning now.
