Problem trying to stage 3 cossie
Hey folks, I've a g plate saff cossie running stage 1 with l6 ecu,t3 & hi lift cams. Over this past month I've been gathering up the bits to make her stage 3. Went out today with my 803s ( 2nd hand off eBay) and a brand new msd stage 3 chip. Got the injectors in & put the chip in & turned the key but she wouldn't start. Strong smell of petrol but no go. Put the stage 1 chip back in & started first turn. Defo had the chip in the correct way. Got another l6 ecu out off an e reg cossie I have, plugged the stage 3 chip in and she fired up at once. Now the problem I have is when the car comes on boost it misses badly and doesn't want to rev but is fine off boost. I set the plug gaps etc and ended up fitting the standard injectors with stage 3 chip & car goes perfect. Sorry for the story but what I want to know is 1, why does the stage 3 chip not work in my cars original ecu & 2, does it sound like my injectors are faulty? I tried tapping them but made no differnce. Thanks. Simon.

Yea James the information for the chip says it's meant for stage 3 bosch 803s. Might try to borrow my mates 803s tomorrow to see if that solves it & if not il give the boys at msd a shout. Thanks mate.

You will be running as lean is hell with the stage 3 chip and standard injectors , thats why it missfires on boost.
Did you also fit a 3 bar map sensor, as you need one for a stage 3.
Don't drive your car as is, it wil melt the engine.

the chip will be specced for injectors, turbo ,interccoler ,map sensor etc,etc have you upgraded your pump, you should also definatley rewire it with new wire so your getting the voltage to drive it .
as steve said you could melt your engine if its not all setup correctley mate

Yea the car has a 3 bar map sensor fitted Steve. I put the standard injectors back in just to find the problem mate & the missfire only happens when the green injectors I got off eBay are fitted. Is it possible( just to find the faulty injector) if I put the greens back in & change 1 at a time with a standard injector? I don't need to drive the car the misfire come in even on a steady rev. Cheers.

What fuel pressure are you running?
You REALLY need to be doing these sort of setups with a wideband attached so you can see what the fuelling is doing.
Di you buy the chip from MSD, or is it a secondhand one?

First of all, thanks for using us for your chip. Feel free to call or email us for advise as your purchase price includes technical support. Points that stand out.
1) Are you sure your other ecu isn't a L1? Odd the chip works in one but not the other.
2) Did you actually trim, the CO etc as per your included instructions? You cant just pop it In a nd blast off up the road.
3) Did you turn the boost up to the levels suggested in the instructions?
4) You mention "Greens" a couple of times. Check the part number, should be 080 150 803. The fact they are "green" honestly does mean nothing. The amount of Grey's I get through here painted green is surprising. people love to pull up at meets etc and say to their mates "Its only on 803s" just after they powered past with 420bhp. LOL

thanks for info stu, the ecu is an l6 the part numbers match up exactly to the other cars ecu mate. the part no on the greens is 0280 150803. i set the co on the car at 2.5 approx but i didnt set the boost level yet as didnt think this would affect anything other than performance. your chip works perfect in the spare ecu so id say its a fault in my cars original one. cheers
