I've taken car looms out, and I wouldn't want to have to put one back in with the standard routing (luckily I've completely re-worked mine, so I won't have to).
In my opinion, the worst areas are where the loom goes up the inside of the A pillar on the drivers side, and across the front and rear headers to feed the interior roof lights. Would be a nightmare to refit, even with the complete interior (including headlining) removed.

as you say if you label certain parts of it , it may well make life a lot easier. maybe take a few pics for reference, if you come to any problems tackle each one at a time, go for it mate if your feeling up to it. If u can its always good to have some help at hand too. At least you tidy any suspect areas prior to installing it and you,ll feel good once it all comes together. What is wrong with the loom in the car at the mo?

Took me an afternoon to change the engine loom on my car. I removed the lower dash to make things easier.

Some days I'm glad my car is LHD. The engine loom routing is a joke.
If you have a spare to go in, hang it to dry inside, clean the crap off it, buy some dieletric grease and lube the connectors up, add some nice "covering" of your choice beit vinyl tape, loom tape, spiral wind or that fancy fabric that goes 3x the size when bunched up to go over connectors (I use that stuff).
In other words if you are going to go to all the trouble, make it pretty. Oh, and I hope you own a multimeter!
