bare head - valve options
So as many of you know, I don't live in the UK. I can't just pop into the for sale section and have a mate say "Sure, I'll post these to Canada".
Plus I don't know enough about the motor. Now from what I have read it uses standard pinto valves on the intake and sodium filled on the exhaust. I read or misread that on later heads the sodium was standard. Wrong? Pinto valves are easy to come by.
It almost appears that an assembled head in good nick is cheaper than buying new valves. WTH? Tabetha mentioned using vauxhall valves machined a bit for exhaust. What engine?
My ford 2.3 turbo engine is 8v but with no sodium. No problems either. even on really big bhp applications. So who is saying that sodium is a must? Do they really reduce detonation that much?
Essentially where are you buying your OEM stuff for the best price and if not OEM, what valves are you modifying to get to to work?
Sorry for so many questions, I just like technical answers.
I liked the info here:

The sodium is not so much there to reduce det, but to stop valve burn, the sodium constantly moves as the valves go up down transfering heat as they do so.
I am pretty sure that mine were machined from vaux valves, all were defo machined, think it was just cheaper, as place that does my stuff does loads of vaux stuff so most likely bought a job lot of valves!!
