Default Pollen filters

My puma came with a full ford stamped history and just 55k so decided to double check standard of service parts etc yesterday and all was good and then opened pollen filter compartment and bloody hell the filter was minging and as heavy as hell, on closer inspection it was rammed with leaf mulsh etc from years of not being changed, bloody good ford dealer they were lol

Sounds about right for main dealer to fleece unsuspecting customers! We had a bloke with a series one that had full ford history and he came to our garage as he heard good things and were cheaper than ford. Turned out the plugs had never been changed. 1 snapped in the head, had to use an extractor for it. When we told the bloke he it was taking longer than expected he said he wouldn't use us again and would take it back to ford!?

Main dealer mind control

Got to blame the 'bonus bashers' who do the jobs too quickly and lob pollen filters in the bin.

I worked at a big city main dealer once, the bins were full of non-fitted service parts.

Does your Puma have the extra plastic cover above the pollen filter housing? They introduced that to (some of) the later ones as they must have known leaves turn to mush easily down there..

Might be an idea to see if the housing itself doesn't have a split / crack in it as not much moisture should really get in there.

My cossie had a full service history. I changed the fuel filter cause it would cut out and not start again. The date on the fuel filter was 06/1991.

checked all that out Dal as you could see it was old 100% no doubt, perhaps they forgot to look under the cover , but changed the plugs filters and oil and they were all spot on

heres the engine bay and its spotless

Where I worked in vauxhall there was a few of them, they seem to be the same people who don't remove the wheels on a service or use a torque wrench on the wheel nuts

Check the fuel filter too. Another commonly overlooked service item.

Memory not too great but I don't think Ford ever included fuel filters as a service item on the old petrol engines. If so it was something like 60k-72k or whatever.

I remember seeing lads in the workshops back in the day when I was at ford booking out all the service parts on the back counter for a car and fitting some and binning the rest so it came as no real surprise, since changing the pollen filter at least the air coming into the cabin smells fresh rather than musky
