Default Mondeo tdci Injector Fault, Wrong Injector?

My Mondeo developed an injector fault so my mate who has a garage offered to sort it out for me as he had a Mondeo sitting there that he could take an injector off.

He changed injector 1 (which he's now not sure if injector 1 means passenger or driver side) but he said the one he took out had a short threar and a seal but the one out of the other car had a longer thread with no seal.

The car is now showing 6 faults, does the injector have to be the same? I would have thought so.

He also sayd the dual mass flywheel is making noises, it was fine before I gave it to him.

Which side is injector 1?

The injectors must be of the same type (length). Number one, is the first on the left, as you're looking at the engine.

What did he use to recode the new injector with?

I don't know what he used but it's a mate of his who was meant to try again and never came back.

He said the injectors were exactly the same as each other but the one he fitted had a longer thread and no seal on it.

My car is a 52 plate and the one he replaced came off an 03 plate.

If the injector is ok I can just take it to a proper garage to get it programmed otherwise I'd rather change the injector myself first.

Potentially yes, but it's hard to reprogramme them properly, even with the proper kit - so make sure you take it to a diesel specialist, not just a garage.

What do you think about the injector being different, he said it was the same except for the longer thread and no seal?

You need to find out what injector is it - There are several different sorts, 501z, 301z, 504z, 701zs etc... Some are cross compatible, but many aren't - mixing variants together isn't a wise idea.

Sadly, fixing Mondeo TDCi fuelling problems 'on the cheap' is seldom possible. If you like the car, bite the bullet and do it properly.

Car sorted!

Picked up a 101z injector off ebay for £45, took it to a guy who really does know what he's on about who programmed it for £60 and the car is working great again.

Very happy boy!
