Default St170 rough on start up

Hi everyone,

I'm getting a bit worries as when I start my st170 up it sounds a little rough (this does not happen all the time) it's like a grinding/clicking noise. It doesn't sound like it's misfiring and drives fine, power seems ok.

Need some advice please?

If when you start it up and it makes a series of clicks, think there was about 8 or so then stops, then it's the IMRC. Silver box bolted to the bulkhead behind the exhaust manifold. Unplug it and if it stops then you've found your problem.

Yep that definitely sounds like the problem as you said it stops after around 8 clicks. Is this expensive to get fixed/replaced?

It is straight forward enough to do yourself, not sure about price of the part though. Only thing I would be worried about is it should have bought the engine management light on. Make sure that the light comes on with the ignition, then goes out shortly after startup. If it doesn't, someone has taken the bulb out!

Hi I was having same prob and I thought it was the imrc box but I then found it was the nipple on the dsi clip had broke of.So I went to ford and they wanted to sell me a new manifold but after a bit of arguing and checking he found the part number and got it ordered.I only found out after that u can get a metal 1 that would have been better. I got the old 1 of no prob but I don't seem to be able to get the new 1 on with the spring.I dont want to pay ford the money to put it on can any 1 tell me is there a certain way to put it on .Thanks
