Default ST170 springs

Had an mot the other day and they said the rear springs were corroded/cracked and will need replacing.
Im wondering whether to bother going for a set of lowering springs, I love the fact that just now I can throw the car about on any road without worrying about it banging about, would I lose this with a different set of springs? Any reccomendations?

Eibach springs all the way, it will improve the stock handeling by quite a margin you wont be disapointed but before you jump in check you can undo the rear control arm bolts, as if you cant its a bugger of a job

Yeah, I suspected Eibachs would be the way to go. Do the stock dampers cope with them ok? How do they affect the ride?

Ok, so got the eibachs from ebay a few weeks ago for a good price, there sitting at home waiting for me to get back from offshore later this week.
Ive done springs on a few cars before, but never on a focus. Are spring compressors required or is it one of the cars that can be done without? I assume apart from them a standard toolkit will suffice.

You yes you will need spring compressors to get the standard springs off the standard front struts and you will need to compress the rear springs to get them out and compress the new ones to get them in because i garentee you wont be able to undo the lower control arm bolts. You will need a pry bar to pull the lower arms down as far as you can to create enough space to pull the old rear springs out and new ones in.

Finally got round to having a go at this, fronts: bit of a nightmare, couldnt get the pinchbolt undone so had to remove the shocker with the hub intact, glad its done now though as the spring was in 2 pieces.

Rears, as predicted, the bolt wouldnt come out there either, tried compressing the springs with the damper undone to get the arm down a bit, no joy. Spring compressors I tried werent really up to it. Is it worth undoing the arb? Will it allow it to drop further?
Sp3no, what sort of spring compressor did you use for it? Seen a thread on another forum where someone used an internal compressor but dont really want to fork out a fortune to get one imported as it will only get used for this one job. Dont mind buying a decent normal set as I know they will get used again, as long as they will work.

Other option I was thinking, just snap or cut off the bolt, grind off the welded on nut, hammer it out and replace with a new bolt/nut, probably the easiest way.
