Default Water in passenger footwell of my FRS

Hi guys,

Has anyone got experience on water dripping running into the passenger footwell on the focus? I noticed a had a small amount the other day and could see it was running down the rubber floor mat and it came from behind the centre console.

I have only noticed it this once after driving while it was raining but it hasn't happened since (and we haven't had any rain). It wasn't from anyones feet either as I was on my own.

Cheers for any advice/suggestions.

Check the scuttle on the passenger side is sealed to the screen. Notoriously bad design; if the scuttle has been removed, usually during a service as the pollen filter is directly below it, and not sealed back, then it leaks into the pollen filter and into the passenger footwell. See it ALL the time when screens have been replaced or the car has had a pollen filter change - seems even tho all windscreen fitters and Ford service techs are told how to re-seal scuttles, most of them don't bother!

Cheers mate and thanks for such a quick reply.

What you have said makes sense.

I am going to sound like a dufus now though, but could you give me a bit of an explanation of what a scuttle is/looks like?

Not had the focus very long and with the weather as it has been, I haven't poked around it much yet. All I have done so far is just changed the lead and plugs because it not perfect at re starting after it has got warmed up but reading through some of the threads on here, it sounds like my next step should be the coil pack. The plugs were ready for it though anyway.

Its collecting a bit of a list of odds and ends now though, needs a new alternator belt n pulley, new gas struts for the boot lid, and with all the pot holes that have appeared recently, I suspect it needs a wheel alignment as soon as I get home.

Thanks again.

exactly as above.
its just a sticky seal on the underside of the scuttle, cheap and easy to replace and repair, mine was doing the same when i bought it.

i renewed the scutle, the seal and the pollen filter in one hit and was suddenly as good as knew.

its the plastic that sits between the bottom of the windscreen and the bulkhead, it just needs to be resealed correctly

Small tip; I often run a length of black electrical tape the whole way across the scuttle so it sticks to both the scuttle and the screen (make sure you clean the screen and scuttle with alcohol cleaner first so it sticks). If you do it neatly enough you can line it up perfectly with the line across the top of the scuttle so you can't see it. I often do this as an extra precaution after I replace a screen. It doesn't last forever, but good quality electrical tape is pretty water resistant so it lasts a good while
